Out of consciousness

"Can you hear me?"

"Ara, please-"

The fragments of conversation sound far away and dreamlike, as if they're at opposite ends of a long tunnel. Her eyelids flutter reluctantly, before she forces them to open all the way, and for a moment, she sees nothing but white, like a bright flash. The voices around her seem to multiply, all speaking over each other at once, and she can't make out any of the words; she can only hear the thumping of her heart, loud in her chest.

"Back up, give her some space." Her eyes search around blindly, fingers grabbing
hold of the thin fabric beneath her, as some of the whiteness melts away, making room for familiar faces.

Frigid panic creeps in before any rational thought is able to, and she scramble into a sitting position, a flare of pain rising up in а her stomach.

Ara positioned on the chair to her right
reaches out, her lips moving but making no sound. She recoils from her touch, words trying to climb out of her throat, but getting stuck there.

The room is filled with doctor Jake, Ara and Niki, and it doesn't take rocket science to figure out that she was in a hospital. But she doesn't know why. She opens her mouth to ask, though nothing comes

She feels something on her face then, and her hand rushes upward to touch it, fingers encircling around a tube, before a nurse reaches out to stop her. An erratic beeping noise fills the air, nand it takes a second to register that it's a heart monitor, putting her terror on full display.

"What's going on?" She finally ask, not recognizing the hoarse voice as her own. "Why am I here?"

She locks eyes with Ara sitting next to her, her brown hair spilling messily from the bun at the back of her head, clothed in a sleek, grey pantsuit.

Her eyebrows pull together in a frown as she stares at me expectantly. "What happened?" She asks, her voice soft, and trembling.

She blanches, her face losing all of its colour, and turns to Jake in a lab coat standing next to her. She follows her gaze, regards her with a grim expression, eyes somber behind his thick-rimmed glasses, folding his hands in front of him. "You've been out of conscious for five hours now, due your blood pressure." Jake explained.

"Five hours?"

"Apparently, it was because of the lack of vitamins in your body"

She looks between the two of them in quick succession, until she reliazed what he meant. God, she didn't eat all the day along.

"And it appeared that it was also because of the stress and anxiety" Ara continued.

I just had a panick attack the day before, normal!

"The ER needs me right now, I will be going Tatiana now. I will check on you later, okay?" Jake said mentioning to the one on the hospital bed.

"When I can get out, you'll be needing me there"

"Not tonight, but I think you can go tomorrow" Jake informed before bimming them a goodbye, leaving Ara and Niki with her.

"What are you doing here, Niki?" Tatiana asked looking at him in wonder, she didn't know how he was there for her.

"I told him" Ara's voice interpreted her thoughts, while she looked struggling to let out the words. "Apparently, he called you on your phone when I found you yesterday and answered him and he said that he was your friend, I'm sorry" Ara apologized.

"It's okay, don't worry" Tatiana said with a small painted her lips.

"Thank you, I think I'll be going too. I can't leave my shift for a long time"

"Ooh, Okay good luck" Ara told them a goodbye after wishing Tatiana a get well soon.

A pregnant silence filled the room.

Both of them kept looking down at his hands until Tatiana decides to break it, "what did you want to talk about, when you called yesterday?"

"I was actually going to talk about Jay," Niki said in a small voice.

"What about him?"

"You know he has been talking about you a lot these days,?" Niki said smiling, making Tatiana lost of words. She didn't know what to answer him with. But she was glad that he decides to continue his words.

"He called on time the mysterious doctor, you know?"

"Well guess, I'm not?" She asked.

"No, you are" Niki said chuckling, before Niki could say anything more. The door of the hospital room was opened by no other than Jay, expressions of worry painted his face witch made Tatiana wonder if he really cared about her.

"Are you alright?" Was the first thing he said.

So he was worrying.

"Who told you?" Tatiana couldn't help to ask but again couldn't help to feel dumb when she looked at Niki beside her. Abviously! Niki told him.

How dumb!

"I guess I will be going now, get well soon." Niki said before getting up, "Don't forget what we have tonight Jay," he spoke to Jay and left.

Once Niki left the room, Jay couldn't help himself to ask. "Did you hurt yourself again?" True, Niki told him about her getting hospitalized in her own work, but didn't tell him the reason.

"No, I got some problems in my blood pressure. It's nothing serious," Tatiana explained making Jay frown. "Blood pressure?"

"I thought you were just a therapist? Not a doctor,"

"Well, you are the doctor here not me, what happened?" Jay said smiling at his own teasing, wanting to bright up the mood.

"Why do you care?" Tatiana didn't know what she was talking about, but couldn't help but ask. She doesn't had anyone to care about her well-being for years, so why now?

"The same reason you cared when you came that night to attend my wounds" He replied.

"That was my job, I am a doctor!" Tatiana's voice tainted the walls of the room, she was feeling angry for the lack of answer.

But finally some emotions out.

"A doctor who tries to end her life every chance she get, while other people out there are wishing for just one second to breath in this life, but here you are trying to end it and the twisted thing in this, it's that you are a surgeon saving lives," Jay yelled all the expressions of anger and misfortune painting his face. He couldn't help saying it, he has his reasons.

"You don't-" Tatiana tried to reason with him but he interpreted her, "It's you who doesn't undestand!" With this words leaving his mouth he left her, closing the soor behind him with a slam, leaving her in broken peices to pick.
