His parents were out to torture him, Aakash concluded, when he made his way to the same door through which he walked out after a little show that one of the resident of this very house had put on.

Though, this time it was him alone heading in.

He was to get there early, his parents had ordered, and make sure his aunt, uncle and cousin came to the right place.

Of course, this would've made sense to him if he was told to come with them instead of ahead of them.

Aakash still remembered how his previous day went.

And good was definitely not it.

His guilt had eaten him so much (well, he was still in one piece) that he just had to go and blurt out what he had done with Chandni back on the day when they met.

He had been basically considered a walking disappointment by his parents, not because of refusing marriage but because of not talking about it earlier and only leading to give false hopes to Chandni's family.

Aakash sighed now, the thought of his cousin probably becoming Chandni's future groom causing an unsettling feeling in him.

It was because he felt Chandni was being tossed around the family like a hand-me-down, he justified.

Yes, it was merely that reason, and with that, he knocked the door.

The door opened, revealing an out of breath but smiling Anjana donned in a beautiful salwar suit.

"Hi, please come in." She ushered him inside but he raised an eyebrow when no one other than her was in sight.

"Amma and Pa will be back shortly. We have the sweets covered but, ran out of time for savoury. Hope you don't mind. Just make yourself comfortable. Would you like something to drink?"

"No that's oka—" He broke off upon hearing clatters from the kitchen.

"Chandni?" He mouthed with a thumb towards the noise to which Anjana nodded, beckoning him.

"Why do I always get the dish duty? Why can't I chop? Or sauté? Or anything that isn't part of the cleaning work?" Chandni mumbled, while rinsing the suds off the utensils.

"You!" She seethed upon seeing Aakash who was trying his best not to laugh out loud.

"Please don't stop on my account." He smirked, leaning against the threshold, making way as Anjana passed by him into the kitchen.

Anjana raised the flame and resumed stirring something while Chandni merely rolled her eyes.

Anjana suddenly beckoned Chandni who paused her work and peeped into the pan and Aakash followed suit out of  curiosity, towering behind the girls.
