Somehow, the house seemed livelier this time to Aakash's eyes.
Maybe it was because Aakash knew this time was the real deal and not a drill.
He was clad in a silk shirt and veshti because what's to say that she's the only one allowed to dress up.
And of course, he was here with the clan.
Prithvi knocked on the door that opened a few seconds later, revealing Ashwin and Diya again.
But Anjana was there in between as an addition, her hands poised on the other two's shoulders as if to keep them tamed.
"Come in." She flashed a warm smile, welcoming Prithvi, Aakash and Aakash's parents inside.
When asked about his parents, Prithvi apologised for their absence explaining that they were out on a reception of their distant relatives.
"They went as the representatives. Scapegoats. It's their turn this time." Aakash's mom pitched in with a wink.
Prithvi mumbled a thanks for not being included in this game as they all went inside and settled on the same old couch.
Aakash took his same old seat where he had sat and seen her walk in for the first time, then loathed in jealousy as she and Prithvi were set up the second time, squirmed under Chandni's parents' scrutiny but later let her sleep on his lap the third time.
And now, the fourth time, he can barely keep himself seated.
He was flanked by Prithvi and Ashwin on either side, Diya sitting close by as if they were there to restrain him but he couldn't pay any mind to it all as he heard it.
The signature jingle of her anklets that he'd gotten so used to that he would find her in a crowd of many other anklet-users.
Aakash moved unconsciously to the edge of his seat as he saw Chandni coming with a plate full of coffee cups.
She was clad in a blue silk saree, the shade which matched with Aakash's silk shirt. Her hair was donned in a french plait, her baby hairs framing her face; the plait down her back was accompanied by two rows of jasmine flowers.
Her face had nothing but kajal around her eyes, highlighting her expressive eyes that were now wide open and taking around every one of them.
Chandni felt extremely excited, now that she could anticipate the visit ending up with something that was actually eventful.
She could barely keep herself from skipping and pulling Aakash with her and keeping him all to herself.
Well, that was what they were here for.
