nd now my rant is over nd u may begin reading:

.........................

Deven:

I came to the end of the staircase and tried to look like I wasn't gaping with my mouth open.

"Miss Deven Serena, would you please give us your attention." said the announcing guard.

Knowing that the line was my cue, I curtsied to the party guests.

I looked up and rose from my bent position. The ladies and men all bent down, in recognition of me.

This felt awkward. Coming from a small village where I had to hunt my food and help my family survive, I was definitely not used to being held in higher standards then men and women who had lived lives of luxury.

But that wasn't the most awkward part. Everyone was whispering and murmuring, pointing their fingers and waving their hands towards me. Everyone except Ryan, Logan and my best friend.

I examined their faces. Logan was smiling, approving and looking around at everyone's reaction towards me.

Ryan was gaping at me, much like the expression I fought when I saw Aaron. I suppose he was surprised how much I had changed. After all, the first time he saw me was when I was wearing a t-shirt that hadn't been cleaned in two weeks and white jeans that had looked like they were colored grey. I didn't blame him.

Aaron, on the other hand had neither of these feelings, or at least didn't show it. He looked... angry. In all honesty, he looked like he was about to kill me. His face was almost like stone, cold and hard. His hands folded behind him were clenched and his muscles flexed. He was terrifying.

What had happened to him?

My thoughts were broken when a man came and held out his arm.

"May I have this dance Miss Deven?" he asked.

He was tall, around Ryan's height, with deep green eyes. I couldn't release my gaze from them.

"Of..." I tried not to stutter. "Of course."

He smiled and his blonde hair ruffled from the breeze. I looked around and saw there were open doors that led to an outside patio. It seemed like the patio was empty.

I took his arm and we made our way out into the middle of the hall. We started to dance and I tried to remember the dance steps. Logan had showed me yesterday, but there were a lot of dances and a lot of steps to memorize.

"And may I ask who my partner might be?" I asked.

"Oh how stupid of me." he said as he twirled me. "I'm Riley. Riley Ricardo."

"Well, Riley, you're an excellent dancer."

He laughed.

'Thanks, I take after my mom. She was a dancer."

"Oh. Is she here?"

His smile disappeared.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I... I shouldn't have asked." I stuttered.

'No, it's alright. No, she isn't here. She passed away a few months ago." he responded.

"Oh, I'm so sorry. I know people have told you this many times and it doesn't mean anything, but I am truly sorry." I said.
