Aaron:

I walked through the wet streets as rain fell.  All the shops were closed for the night and the streets were empty. The sky was a dark gray color as I stepped over a puddle. The only sound was the water hitting the pavement as it fell off the roofs and the wind blowing through the trees.

It was a perfect time to deliver the message. Being a spy, it was hard to find such opportunities to go through the streets unnoticed. This was my second month of working with the Alliance. After Ryan and Logan showed me how it was set up, I joined immediately.

Ryan and Logan took Deven and me separately. I was sent there before she was captured. They had sent a letter saying that Astos politicians had to meet with me pronto. Naturally, I went, seeing as you couldn't turn down a meeting with government officials.  When I got there, I found a man about 7 ft tall and maybe 400 pounds waiting for me. Let me tell you, it was not a pleasant emotional experience. I was so confused, always wanting to know where I was, too scared to do anything.

Deven came the next day. I don't know how they captured her but she was really confused and disoriented when she got to me. She would have nightmares every night and I would sneak away from my room to see her. Each night I would tip toe from my room down the hall and down a flight of stairs, leading to a group of rooms like hers. I would sit there with her for hours at a time. I used to lie next to her and wonder why her room was so filthy and repulsive. I didn't understand why we had different living conditions. I had asked Ryan once but he gave me no answer and instead walked out of the room, I think I heard him punch the wall.

After that, I never brought the subject up again. Ryan and Logan seemed like okay guys. At first, I was mad because of the thought of Deven alone in that room haunted me, but slowly, they showed me everything I had ever wanted to know. They were nice and friendly actually. They were cousins, around the same age, a little older than Deven and I by around maybe three years. They confirmed all of my beliefs and even encouraged me to go against the government. I had never heard someone agree with me before and was naturally delighted.

They then explained to me what spies were and how the Alliance worked.

Each city has their own spies which go around collecting secrets and information from politicians and government workers, trying to find things they can use against the capitol when the war outbreaks. Our goal is to be able to revolt against the Capitol and bring it down. Or at least bring the politicians down.

Shortly after, Ryan and Logan offered me a position and I accepted. I think accepting this job has to be the best thing I've ever done. I'm involved and engaged in the action and finally fighting for what I believe in.  My job is to spy on one of Gnoshi's politicians, Sir Leonard Harrington, and find out who he is working with. Right now, I am delivering a message, meant for another Thrailean spy, and placing it in the board.

The "board" is a set of locations used for hiding messages until the receiver can pick them up. It's a pretty good device to have, since there are normally a lot of people here. We spies normally have our own way of connecting, which is good, because otherwise, we wouldn't stand a chance. Our main defense is staying secret, which is why it is imperative that no one watches us as we go through our missions.

I wonder if Deven is doing alright. I feel horrible that I left her, but I've moved on now. No exceptions. No turning back. No more thinking about her wonderful face and her beautiful hair and the way she walked...

'Snap out of it Aaron!' I thought to myself. 'Let her go.'

I sighed. I spotted the abandoned, beat up mailbox. But instead of placing the letter inside the mailbox, I taped it underneath, following my orders.

I then proceeded to put my hood up over my head and turned to see someone staring at me from the shadows of the building across the way.

'Oh shit.' I thought to myself.

I watched them as they watched me. The shadows hid them so perfectly that I could only see their eyes. They were a piercing, glowing yellow. Never have I been terrified by someone's eyes, not like this.

I held my breath, afraid to do anything and slowly reached around to the mailbox and unhooked the letter, out of the mystery person's view and slid it in my back pocket. From what I could tell, they hadn't seen it had been moved.

I nodded to them and took a step in the other direction and just like that, they were gone.

They had disappeared into the blackness behind them.
