Abuela takes a deep breath, and everyone at the table watches her anxiously. Camilo squeezes my hand under the table, a tense expression on his face. "Gracie has left the Encanto." Abuela finally says. I turn to Camilo, confused. "Last night, her mother Davina came to me with a troubling finding," she continues. No one says anything. "Gracie has left to travel to the nearby town of San Andes, a town that also has a magical object, like our candle." Abuela pulls out an old looking book, and places it onto the table. Everybody stares at the diary, some with their mouths gaping open. "She has created a list of towns that have magical artifacts, and by the looks of this diary, she plans on collecting each and every one of them." As Abuela's words sink in, I feel my heartrate picking up, a wave of fear washing over me. "San Andes has a family, the Fernanda's, who have passed down an enchanted amulet through each generation. The amulet has the power to heal, and it protects the town. I am friends with the grandmother of the current holder."

As soon as Abuela finishes speaking, an uproar of noise ensues. "We have to help them!" Julieta exclaims. "Someone needs to warn them!" Felix adds. "I knew Gracie wasn't truly sorry!" Camilo shouts, standing up and slamming his hands on the table. Dolores covers her ears and Mariano puts his arm around her, looking anxious. "Abuela, we have to go and stop her!" Isabella says defiantly, now also standing. Abuela raises her hand, signifying everyone to calm down. "Of course we are going to help, but this is a very delicate situation. Gracie left last night, so she has probably already arrived in San Andes. Only a few of us can go, some of us need to stay here to keep the Encanto running." Camilo sticks up his hand. "I volunteer!" He says, a determined expression on his face. My hand shoots up next to his. "Me too, Gracie wronged me, I have to stop her!" I say, turning to Camilo, who is smiling proudly at me. "Absolutely not!" Pepa cries out, a rain cloud sprinkling rain onto her hair. "Camilo Madrigal, this is much too dangerous for you and Y/n!" Camilo is about to protest when Abuela speaks. "Pepa, Camilo and Y/n's gifts will be exceptionally useful... If they went with Isabella, I believe they could stop Gracie before she can steal the amulet." Pepa glares at her mother, the rain above her turning to thunder. "Mama, they're only kids..." Camilo chimes in; "We can handle it Mami, we'll have Isabella, and I'm sure whoever the holder is for the amulet will be more than happy to help us!" Pepa looks from her son to Abuela. Felix places a hand on hers, "Mi amor, they can do this." He says, giving her a supportive smile. Pepa takes a deep breath, and nods slowly. "Fine," Camilo squeezes my hand, and we're both fighting back our excited smiles.

2 hours later...

After dinner Abuela pulls Camilo, Isabella and I aside. "You understand that this is a very critical situation, if Gracie gets her hands on the Amulet, then the entire town of San Andes will be in danger." She says sternly. The three of us nod solemnly. "You will leave tomorrow morning, Julieta has packed enough food for 3 days. You will take two of granjera Anita's donkeys." She passes Isabella a pouch and a folded piece of paper. "Here are enough pesos to allow you to buy food once you reach the town. The map will lead you straight there, it's less than a day's travel so you'll arrive before sunset tomorrow." Isabella nods, holding onto the map and money tightly. Camilo slips his hand into mine, interlacing our fingers. "We'll all see you off in the morning, so for now get some rest, you'll need your strength." Abuela looks determined, but I see a hint of anxiety in her eyes. This must be scary for her, sending us off by ourselves. I think as Camilo and I walk up the stairs. "Well, buenas noches, mi vida, I'll see you in the morning," Camilo sighs, kissing me gently on the cheek. "Buenas noches, amor," I say, before heading to my room.

I lie on my white sheets, staring up at the star ridden ceiling, my mind racing. I knew Gracie was a lying bitch. And now she's tryna steal this amulet thingy? Not on my watch... I close my eyes and drift off to sleep, dreams of Gracies epic defeat spinning around my head.

Next morning...

I wake up extra early, and throw some clothes and essentials into a bag. As I leave my room I bump into a very sleepy Camilo. His hair is messy and wild, sticking up in random places. He's wearing his ruana but I can see it's on backwards. "Goodmorning, mi vida, you ready for this?" I ask as he rubs his eyes, yawning. wraps his arms around my waist, pulling me close. "I'm ready as fuck, chica, let's do this." He squeezes me tightly. "By the way, hermoso, you're ruana's on backwards," I whisper to him, giggling. "Oops," He says, a little embarrassed. After fixing it the right way around, we head down stairs. Abuela, Pepa, Agustin, Julieta and Felix are waiting by the front door, which is open. Outside I see two donkeys, each with a sack slung over it's rump. Pepa runs towards Camilo, planting kisses on his cheeks. "Promise me you'll be careful, hijo," She says, a rainy cloudy sprinkling above her. "I promise, Mami, lo prometido." He replies, giving her a reassuring smile. Isabella comes down the stairs and hugs her parents. "Be careful, corazon," Julieta tells her. "Come, it's time for you to set off," Abuela says, clasping her hands together. I take Camilo's hand, and we leave the house, ready to embark on the journey.
