Halley...

"What?" I snap through the phone. I was trying to sleep because I have work in the morning, but I was interrupted by my phone ringing.

"Hey Halley," Michael slurs.

"Michael? Are you drunk?"

"Just a little bit," he giggles.

"Where's Melody?" I ask quickly.

"That's actually why I was calling you. Can you pick her up from the babysitters? I can't."

"Do you need me to pick you up too?"

"Nope, I have plans." He chuckles.

"Just don't drive okay?"

"I'm not, I'm going to stay at a friends."

"Yeah okay," I say sarcastically. "Who is the babysitter?" I question.

"I don't remember her name, but she's the woman that lives across the street from me."

"Okay, I'll just drop Melody off at school tomorrow and you can pick her up from there, when you're sober."

"Thank you Halley I wub you." He laughs making a kissing sound.

"Yeah, night," I say hanging up. I throw on my shoes and a coat and make my way out to the car.

After driving to Michael's, I knock on the neighbors door and a young woman around my age answers. "Can I help you?" she asks sweetly.

"Um- are you Melody's babysitter?"

"Why?"

"Michael Clifford sent me to pick her up, I'm her Aunt Halley Greene." I respond.

"Can I see your I.D.?" the woman asks.

"Uh- Yeah- here," I say handing her my drivers license after pulling it out of my phone purse.

"Melody come here please!" The woman calls handing me back my card.

"Auntie Halley!" Melody screeches and jumps into my arms when she sees me.

"You know her Mel?"

"Yeah, this is my Auntie. Auntie Halley this is my babysitter Miss Lacey."

"Okay, well your Auntie is going to take you home, so go get your stuff." The girl, Lacey, orders.

"Okay," Melody agrees hopping out of my arms and running inside.

"Thank you for watching her. How much do I owe you?"

"Michael already paid me." She says simply.

"Okay- um-well thank you again."

"No problem, Melody was an angel."

"That's good, well goodnight." I say when Melody pops up carrying her 'Hello Kitty' backpack.

"Goodnight Miss Lacey." Melody smiles.

"Goodnight Melody. Goodnight Ma'am."

"You can call me Halley." I inform.

"Okay - um I'm Lacey. It was nice to meet you."

"Same to you." I smile then walk with Melody to the car.

"Where's daddy?" she asks as I buckle her into her car seat.

"He's- um he's- uh having a sleep over?" I answer awkwardly.

"With who?" Stop being so curious. Please.

"Um- with a friend?"

"Oh okay," she nods. On the way home, Melody will not stop talking. She blabs on and on about subjects that I don't understand nor care about. "Auntie Halley do you believe in fairy tales?" She asks out of the blue.
