Questionable

I stare up at Moon and he stares back, silent after that final sentence. I check the time on my Security Tablet to find it being 1:34 am. "Time sure did fly by during that," I say, not knowing what else to comment about.

"Time always slips away when you have a little fun... or fear," Moon says. I look up at him.

"For a daycare attendant, you sure like talking about fear."

Moon chuckles. "It's oddly amusing to me when I see it. I don't talk about it much with the children. Only when they have a bad dream. I always tell them, 'Your fear doesn't find you; you find your fear. If you don't want to see it, don't think about it. Just go to sleep and have a good dream, and your fears will melt away.'"

"It's a very nice thing to say. My mother used to tell me something like that," I tell him.

     "Is your mother well?"

"She died when I was 15." There was silence after that. Gosh, I hate silence. At least he isn't asking any questions. I look up at the glow-in-the-dark stars plastered on the walls and hanging from the ceiling. This would be a nice place to rest, I think.

"You must be tired," Moon says.

"I had plenty of sleep while I was at home," I responded. Not really. I fell asleep while watching Squid Game, and that didn't do much but made me drowsy when I woke up. I wasn't tired now, but I feel like I will be before 6 am.

"So, ___, tell me a little about yourself." I stay quiet. "Well, there's nothing else to pass the time with. Besides, we are going to be working in close proximity to each other."

I sigh, knowing he's right. "Well, when I was 6, my father left me and my mother because of his job. My mother could never forgive him, abandoning his family for money, but I never knew if I could or not. I never remembered much of him. That was until later on when I was 14. My mother was diagnosed with severe pancreatic cancer. That's when my father came into the picture and stood by her in the hospital as if they were together from the very beginning. She died a year later and my father got custody of me. He never really did much but gave me money when I asked for it, which wasn't often. If I tried to pay him back, he wouldn't accept it, telling me I had no reason to pay him back for anything. He paid my college fees and said he had high hopes for me, but when I tried to find him after I got out, he vanished."

Moon sits there in silence, waiting for more words. Those words don't appear. So, he decided to make them visible instead.

"The first time I got to see children, there were mixed emotions among them. Some of the children were amazed, some scared, some indifferent. One kid was so scared he wet himself and had to be sent home early. Things have changed and some of the children have warmed up to me, but there are still a few who are scared. It's probably because of my eyes." He looks at me. "When I notice a child has gone missing, I turn on a heat sensor mode that makes my eyes go red and glow. That's why some of the children hide from me, because of that. When I do find them, they scream causing the others to wake up and scream too. I have no other choice but to turn the lights back on and let Sun take care of them."

"What about nap time today when the children were sound asleep?" I ask him in confusion.

"They've learned to not run and hide. When I show up, it's not playtime. They learned that. It gets boring after a while. Not getting to have fun with them without telling them to rest or getting scared when a child isn't found."

"Well, Animatronic or not, I guess nobody's life is great," Is all I can say. Then Moon turns to me.

"Have you met the others yet?" He asks.

"Yeah, the rest of the security staff are pretty nice."

     "Not the security. The animatronics."

I shake my head no in response. He then grabs my hand and leads me outside the daycare. "For being so dramatic about me leaving, you're sure eager to drag me out," I say.

"When it comes to acting, you have little to no control on what you want, choose, or react." He says. His words sound so wise, but he's telling me everything I've heard before.

He takes me up the stairs and leads me outside the daycare. I look around at the giant Pizza Plex. The building seems a lot bigger at night than in the day when it's all crowded.

"Come to think of it. Why do you say that a lot?" He asks.

     "Say what?"

     "For blank, you sure blank."

"It's a habit. Where are we going, anyway?"

"We're going to stop by the Glamrocks' rooms to pay them a visit." He brings me into an elevator and presses one of the buttons. Shortly after, the doors open, and we walk into an area called "Rockstar Row". It looks more like a museum to me.

"So, which one do you want to meet, first?" Moon asks, gesturing me to the four rooms, one being for Glamrock Freddy, one for Glamrock Chica, one for Roxanne Wolf, and one for Montgomery Gator.

"I guess Chica?" I say. I remember back in the first Freddy Fazbear joint I was fond of Chica for some reason. We walk over to her room, but when I looked inside, she wasn't there. "Where's Chica?" I ask.

"I forgot to tell you; she usually isn't in her room. Instead, she's... eating," Moon responds, looking at me.

     "Animatronics can eat?" I ask.

"Only Chica can. She's been given the ability to turn food into energy, so she doesn't have to use a recharge station. The things she chooses to eat though are quite... questionable."

I look around the rooms. Monty is in his recharge station, Roxy is examining herself in the mirror, saying things to herself that I can't quite hear, and Freddy isn't in his room.

"What about Freddy? Where's he at?" I ask Moon.

"Malfunctioned after yesterday's show. He was sent to maintenance. He should have been fixed by now and back in his room, though." Moon looks around, but there's no sign of the orange bear.

     Then we hear footsteps.
