LDN had been on tour for a few weeks, and Normani was slowly getting over Masi. Everything was going fine, except that Dinah would periodically to rush to a toilet or trashcan to vomit. Lauren and Normani were becoming concerned and asked Dinah to come to their room after checking in to a hotel.
Sitting on a bed in their room Normani queried, “Dinah, sweetie. You’ve been sick a lot lately, and it’s been too long for it to be a stomach virus. Do you want to tell us what’s wrong? Should we take you to a doctor?”
Dinah sat quietly for a moment trying to come up with a way to respond. Lauren placed her hand on Dinah’s arm to comfort her and encourage her to speak. “You know you can tell us anything, right?”
Dinah took a deep breath and spoke. “My period was late, so I took an at-home pregnancy test last week. It was positive.” Dinah looked down afraid of the reaction she would receive from her bandmates.
“You can’t be serious,” replied Lauren.
“It’s true. I wouldn’t joke about something like this,” Dinah responded. Normani reached over and started rubbing Dinah’s shoulder.
Lauren was turning red and exploded. “Are you fucking kidding me? Our career is taking off and you get fucking pregnant!”
“I’m sorry,” Dinah said sadly.
Normani interjected, “Don’t be sorry, Dinah. It could have happened to any of us. Lauren, can you stop thinking about yourself for a moment and be supportive of your friend? This is a scary time for her.”
“She wasn’t thinking about us when she decided to interrupt our careers,” Lauren shouted. She turned to Dinah, “How stupid can you fucking be? Have you never heard of condoms, the pill, the patch, the diaphragm, the shot, the IUD, the pull-out method? Something, Dinah, something!”
Dinah shouted back, “I messed up, okay! I’m sorry. What do you want me to do? I can’t turn back time.”
“Get an abortion!” yelled Lauren. Then, silence fell over the room. It seemed as if a couple of minutes had passed before SMACK! Dinah slapped Lauren across the face and stormed out of the room slamming the door.
Lauren held her left cheek and mumbled, “I deserved that.”
Surprising Normani and Lauren, Dinah swung the door open and walked toward the bed where the two were sitting. Normani quickly jumped up and stood between the two just in case a physical altercation ensued.
Dinah pointed at Lauren, “You know what? I was going back and forth in my mind on whether to ask you or Normani to be my baby’s godmother, but you made that decision easy for me. You’re a coldhearted, selfish bitch, Lauren. I almost wish Camila was here instead of you. She would never tell me anything like that.” At this point, tears were streaming down Dinah’s face. “We are no longer friends. Our relationship is strictly business now. Don’t talk to me unless you have to, and I’ll do the same.” Dinah turned around and walked back out of the room closing their door more softly than the last time.
Normani turned to face Lauren, “God, Lauren! Do you ever think before you speak?”
“I’m sorry.”
“You need to tell that to Dinah,” exclaimed Normani.
“I will. I’m just going to wait for her to cool down.”
Normani shook her head, “I don’t even know of this can be fixed with just an apology. You really messed up this time.”
“I know.” Lauren was crying now. “I don’t know what’s gotten into me.”
“Whatever it is, you need to fix it before it tears this group apart. A baby might put us on hold for a little while, but your attitude will end us. I’m going to see if Dinah is okay.” Normani left the hotel room leaving Lauren there by herself for the rest of the day.
