~that night~

Cheryl woke up from the middle of her nightmare sweating and crying. The nightmare was more of like a flashback. She tried to slow down her breathing because she was breathing way too fast. She had finally slowed her breathing down and just placed her head into her hands, letting her tears turn into sobs.

~the nightmare~

"You're going to have to tell him about this soon" Cheryl says to the woman sitting across from her.

"I know but I can't" The woman says.

"Trust me, you can do this...I know you can." Cheryl says.

"I can't tell him something like that..." The woman says with tears running down her face.

"Ellie please don't cry, I'm going to get you out of this situation." Cheryl informs the woman.

"Promise?" Ellie asks while wiping her tears away

"I promise, but to keep that promise you have to tell him" Cheryl says.

"Okay, I will. Thank you so much Cheryl. I don't know what I'd do if it weren't for you" Ellie says with a smile forming on her lips which made Cheryl smile a bit.

"Of course. Remember my promise, I will get you out of this. You don't deserve to be treated like this constantly. You are worthy of so much more than Johnathon and You will get more than him." Cheryl reminds the girl as she gets up to leave. Ellie just smiles while leaving. A few days go by, and she hasn't seen or heard anything from Ellie which makes her suspicions go up a lot, but she reminds herself not to worry too much because this isn't the first time Ellie hasn't showed up.

**

Cheryl sits down on her couch because she has time to spare before she has to go to work. She feels her phone vibrate and it's a text from her assistant Claire. The text just reads 'turn on the news channel now. Cheryl...I'm sorry.'

The text left Cheryl confused but she did as Claire told her.

She turned to the news channel and what she saw shattered her heart into pieces.

The news headline: Female corpse found in a garbage bag hidden in an alley way.

"The Woman looks in about her mid 20's, blonde hair, Caucasian, blue eyes. That's all we can tell considering that the rest of her body wasn't found. Only the upper half of the woman. 'The smell of the rotting corpse is what made it possible to find.' says Layla, the neighbor that found the bag." One news reporter says.

The hints had started adding up. Parts of Cheryl's brain telling her that it was Ellie, the other's telling her that there's lots of blue-eyed blondies in the world. Until her question had been solved.

"Cops quickly identified the woman after running a few DNA tests and comparing pictures of her. The woman found is Elliana Wilson, a-" The other news reporter says but Cheryl immediately turns off the TV after hearing the name she didn't want to hear. Cheryl starts to shake and breaks into sobs, with thoughts flooding her mind. 'She trusted you...' 'You were supposed to protect her' ' How could you' 'You broke your promise' 'you should've called and checked on her when she didn't come to the meetings' 'You could've and should've done something to prevent it' 'You let her die.' That was the last thought. The thought that stuck with her. She had let Ellie die after she had promised to protect her. She didn't need anyone to tell her who did it, she already knew. It was her husband. The man she was supposed to protect Ellie from. She had failed at her job.

~end of nightmare~

Cheryl had still and will always feel guilty for Ellie's death. Not because she was guilty but because she had broken an extremely important promise. Ellie was the last code red case she had before Toni. The thought of the case makes Cheryl want to burst into sobs every single time. She couldn't lose someone else. She couldn't lie again. She couldn't break another promise. She couldn't lose another case. She couldn't lose Toni. Cheryl quickly wiped away her tears and picked up her phone and sent Toni a text.

Cheryl: Toni! Are you okay?

Cheryl felt nerves fill her body as she waited for a response.

The text had surprised Toni. She didn't know why Cheryl was asking if she was okay but responded.

Toni: Yea, I'm fine, why?

Cheryl let out a sigh of relief and felt the nerves slowly leave her body. She was so happy that Toni was okay.

Cheryl: No reason...have you told him yet?

Toni: No... I'm sorry I just couldn't.

Cheryl: Good. You should do it when you're somewhere safe and away from there.

Toni: But I can't, I'm never safe from him no matter where I go

Cheryl: You're safe whenever you meet up with me!

Toni: But that's only for an hour of protection. I have to go before he wakes up, bye Cheryl.

And the conversation ends like that. As much as Cheryl wished it wasn't true, Toni was right. She could only protect her for an hour each day which wasn't enough. What about after she tells him? She wouldn't be safe. Cheryl was stuck. She didn't know what to do but she had to figure it out fast.
