A/N: this is a pic of Cheryl's apartment just darker since it's night time😪
3rd Person POV:
The two women walked into the apartment and Toni's eyes immediately took in the place. She was a very observant person.
"Welcome to my humble abode" Cheryl smiled.
"It's really nice" Toni responded with a small smile. The brunette saw some fancy paintings on the walls and also a few framed photographs of the redhead as she was looking around, still stood in the same place though so she couldn't see the photos that well. Cheryl noticed the roaming eyes and spoke up.
"Feel free to look around" Cheryl said with a smile. Toni nodded and started to walk towards the pictures to get a better look at them. She smiled as she saw a few of Cheryl when she was younger, but one in particular caught her attention. It was of Cheryl, but with a redheaded little boy who looked extremely similar to Cheryl in it as well.
"Hey Cher, who's this?" Toni pointed at the picture with raised eyebrows and a small smile on her face. Cheryl smiled at the nickname before walking over to see what she was talking about.
The redhead looked down at the picture and her smile faded a little.
"Oh, that's my twin brother, Jason" Cheryl smiled at the picture and at the sight of the brunette observing it.
"Aw, you guys look so adorable" Toni giggled, her smile widening.
"Why thank you" Cheryl smiled. Toni just nodded and stopped looking at the photo.
"Okay so, we have a few things to discuss." Cheryl informed Toni, she could see Toni's smile slowly start to fade as she nodded which made the redhead's hurt ache. She knew this wasn't an easy subject to talk about, but it was her job and she wanted to help Toni out of this mess as soon as possible.
The two sat down on one of the couches after Cheryl had offered Toni a glass of water which the brunette had politely accepted.
"Okay, I need you to walk me through everything. Can you start at the beginning of the relationship please?" Cheryl asked softly. Toni just responded with a nod before speaking.
"We started dating a few years ago, he was extremely sweet and understanding. I had so much more freedom than I do now...it's like he was a totally different person-" Toni explained as tears began to fall at the thought of the man she used to know.
"It's okay, take your time" the redhead said soothingly. Toni adored whenever Cheryl's voice would get soft while talking to her. It brough her a type of comfort that she had never felt before. Especially not with Steven.
"There were times when he would get mad over little things, but he never let his temper get out of control. At least not until a year later...that's when the abuse started. He just came home late one day. Drunk. He was angry about something...I tried to talk to him about it and calm him down, but he wouldn't listen. He just kept yelling and it got louder each time." Toni's voice broke with each word that fell out of her mouth and her tears flowed even more.
~Flashback~
2:30 am
"Baby, can you please calm down and tell me what's wrong?" Toni begged her clearly wasted boyfriend for the 100th time. It was late and she was exhausted because she had stayed up all night worried about Steven as she waited for him to come home.
"For the love of god Toni, will you shut the hell up! I told you I'm FINE!" Steven yelled at the woman standing a few feet away from him.
"No. You're clearly not. I- I just-" Toni started to speak but quickly got cut off by the angry man in front of her.
"You're just what?! You're always fucking worrying! I'm a grown ass man. I can take care of myself." Steven pushed pass Toni and started to walk away until he felt something stop him. It was Toni. She was holding onto his arm tightly, but it didn't hurt the man.
"Steve...I just want to talk, is that so much to ask for?" The brunette with pink streaks' voice broke at the last half of the sentence. He didn't even respond. He just stared at the woman with nothing but anger and hatred in his eyes before harshly pushing her to the ground with the arm that she was attached to.
He walked away to the bedroom and slammed the door, leaving a sobbing Toni on the living room floor.
~end of flashback~
"I'm- um...not very good at handling situations where people are yelling. It makes me very anxious..." Toni looked down at her fingers as she started to fidget with them.
"What usually helps you with that?" The redhead asked. It wasn't important to the case, but she was just worried for the woman.
"This" Toni lifted her fidgeting hands. "I sometimes play with my hair, that helps too, as well as counting numbers in my head." The brunette continued. "Sorry, this all sounds childish-"
"No, it doesn't, truly. If it's what helps, then that's great." Cheryl grinned. Toni just nodded.
"Okay, so that's when the abuse started...can you tell me when it started to get worse?" Cheryl asked as she wrote a few things down. Once again, Toni just nodded before speaking.
"A few weeks had passed, and he would come home late every night, drunk and yelling. But one night he stormed in and just grabbed me and-" Toni got cut off by her tears turning into sobs. She had completely broken down. The slightly older woman beside her moved closer and wrapped her arms around the crying woman.
The brunette immediately wrapped her arms around the redhead's waist and laid her head on Cheryl's chest. Cheryl ran her fingers through Toni's hair and whispered sweet nothing into her ear. Over an hour had passed and Toni's sobs had softened. She removed her arms from around Cheryl and sat up.
"Sorry about that..." Toni apologized, pointing to the redhead's now soaked shirt.
"It's okay, I think that's all for today. It's pretty late." Cheryl grinned at the yawning woman and glanced at the clock on the wall, it read 10:00. Toni nodded in agreement.
"Okay so, you can take the bed upstairs and I'll sleep down here" Cheryl stated. Toni looked stunned.
"What? Did you really think I was going to let you go back and stay at that hotel?" The redhead said, as if it was obvious. Toni slowly nodded.
"Absolutely not, he knows where your room is now. And it's so simple for someone to get spare keys to a hotel room, all he needs is your name." Cheryl explained before continuing. "Would you like to shower first? I could lend you some clothes." The redhead offered.
"Yes please" Toni grinned and nodded.
"Okay, hang tight." Cheryl stood up and walked up the stairs. She soon returned with a pair of pajamas for Toni.
"Here you go" Cheryl softly handed the pj's to Toni.
"Thank you" Toni accepted the pj's before following Cheryl to the bathroom.
About 40 minutes had passed and both the women were showered and ready for bed. Cheryl led Toni upstairs to the bedroom area of her apartment. She made sure Toni was settled in bed and was walking downstairs but stopped when she heard her favorite soft voice.
"Thank you, Cheryl, for everything" Toni grinned.
"Of course. If you need anything, don't be afraid to ask me" Cheryl smiled at the girl, Toni just nodded.
"Sweet dreams" said Cheryl.
"Good night" Toni responded.
All the lights were off in the apartment and Cheryl had fallen asleep. Toni tried her hardest to go to sleep but she couldn't. Thoughts of her being a burden in Cheryl's life flooded her head. Time had passed and sleep had eventually taken over her body.
