The nighttime in her tent was always peaceful. Quiet, it wasn't busy as it was in the daytime. But there was always some sort of longing when she was alone. A longing of a physical touch she despised. She just wanted to be held, but she hated it.
Beet wasn't one for friends. Sure, she'd had a couple friends back at home, but they weren't many. But this longing felt different. Her heart ached. She missed her brother and her home, but she couldn't stay there anymore. She couldn't stay in a home where his parents hated him and her brother was missing. Gone. Of course, the name Ninja Cookie had always suited him.

Unfortunately.

She huddled under her blanket and let her thoughts drift. He didn't want to dream, just think.
But as he closed his eyes, she felt herself fall into slumber.

"Beet Cookie. Where the hell are you?"
"..right here, mother." She straightened her hood and stepped into the light.
"Perfect. We're heading out tonight. Make sure your brother stays home."
"He's already gone. He left earlier." Beet Cookie braved herself, but it never came.
"Damn." Was all her mother said. That's it? Nothing? Odd.
"Darling..is our lovely daughter bugging you?"
Daughter. Of course. It wasn't like he wasn't a girl. Just because he had been created as a girl, doesn't mean he was one.
She straightened her hood again and decided not to push it.

That was odd. So..plain. Her dreams usually consisted of more horrible memories, with yelling and waking up shaking. Not this. She'd merely..opened her eyes and it was light.
Light?
Damn.
It was morning already.
And just that, the longing disappeared as Carrot Cookie ripped open her tent entrance.
"Rise and shine, sleepyhead! We've got work to do!" Carrot was cheerful as always. Beet wished it was infectious.
"Come on, come on!" Beet pushed herself up and rubbed her eyes.
"I just woke up, Carrot.." He yawned, staring up at Carrot with mock dismay.
"Well, get your lazy butt up and get dressed!"
"Alright, alright.."
There was a pause as Beet waited.
"So..are you going to leave? I have to change."
Carrot reddened, yelping out;
"Right! Yes! Sorry!" And scrambled out of the tent.

"So," Beet was raking the dirt in order for Carrot to plant whatever she had today. "Why the hell is it so hot today."
"Dunno." Carrot grinned. "Isn't it great?!"
Work and sunny days made Carrot happy. Her crops did too. It was nice seeing her get excited, but it was tiring sometimes.
"Carrot, what do you want to do other than..this, today?" Beet wiped her forehead, pushing more dirt with the rake she held.
"Well, we've got all this to do! I'm sure it's gonna take all day!"
Beet groaned. Of course.
"Aw come on, can we do something interesting for once?"
"Stop whining!" Carrot grabbed an old broom off the deck and whacked her on the head.
"Ow!" Beet made a gesture at her, which led to the cookie making a face of mock offense.
"How dare you!" Carrot pouted. Beet laughed, not noticing the shine that formed in Carrots eyes as she did.
"Ay, Carrot! Beet!"
Both looked up as Mala Sauce cookie stumbled through the trees.
"Whatcha guys doing? We've got some newcomers to the kingdom, figured you'd like to meet 'em." Mala Sauce grinned.
"Oh! Someone new! That's great!" Carrot clapped her hands together. "What's their name?"
"Adventurer Cookie or somethin.' Are you comin'?"
"Yeah!" Carrot ran over. "Are you, Beet?"
"Hm? Oh, yeah I'll come." She smiled nervously. New people are not his thing.

"The names Adventurer! You?" He held out his hand. Beet hesitated, then shook it.
"Beet." He muttered.
"Nice! And you?"
"Carrot Cookie!" She smiled again.
"Well, how do ya do? Do you think I'd be able to find someone named Bb around here?" He tipped his hat towards the two of them.
"Bb? I don't think so.." Carrot scratched her head. There wasn't anybody named Bb in the kingdom.
"Ah. Well..maybe a giant, spooky looking house then?" He made a house shape with his hands as he spoke.
"You mean that old run down building that spooks the kids?" Beet tilted his head as Carrot continued talking.
"Probably!" Adventurer laughed. "It's old, big, purple and creepy?"
"Ooh! Ooh! The house in the woods!"
Beet left the two of them to talk about..whatever they were talking about. She felt the longing form again.
God. Why did it have to be so hot? She pulled her hood down and shook her hair out. The pigtails nearly smacked in her face, but she didn't care.
She found herself wishing it was nighttime. It's peaceful then, quiet. But it was also lonely.
She'd recognized the longing a while ago. The pain in her chest when Carrot left her alone.

She wanted her.
