[ this was originally sposed to be posted on al3 as an actual story but I gave up so ]
Life was a simple being. Life was all, and nothing. Life exists beyond the concepts of the mortal mind.
He is also a child, and has existed longer than you and I can comprehend. His elder gods are younger than his existence, having been created by Life himself for playmates and fun; though they took the roles of guardians more than friends.
Life creates, he does not destroy. He brings mortals and gods alike to existence, but no one knows how he came to be.
He's playful, reckless; he created humanity in hopes of having a friend, but they left him to create their own world.
Then they started dying, and he created a new world. One where the mortals could go after their life has passed. He created a reaper of souls to guide the dead to this world peacefully, but after some time he replaced them so the reaper could rest.
He learned to never get attached to his creations, as they all left the mortal plane eventually. He grew older, less child-like, after millions upon billions years of his childhood.
Sometimes he wondered what would happen if he tried to go to the world of the afterlife. He knew he could bring them back- but if he brought one back, why not all?"Brave?"
He turned his head, his eyes making contact with the elders.
The elders were not his parents; merely guardians. He did not long for a parental figure like he had when he was a child, he no longer had the need for them. Though, the elders monitored his work and took care of the mortal world, while he created his beings.
"Crunchy Chip?" He replied, his tone softer than he'd have liked. The god frowned, typically annoyed at the nickname.
"It's Chip, only." He sighed. "Why do you insist on calling me that, child?"
"I created you. I am no child." He said coolly. "And besides, I can call you whatever I'd like. It's simply a nickname, like the mortals do. You call me Brave."
"As requested by you, sire." Crunchy Chip sighed. "I do as you ask, though I still watch over you. Yet, you are a teenager in your own mortal terms."
"Well..." Life did not finish his sentence. He watched over the mortals quietly, noticing the human he had taken an odd interest in.
The white haired teenager was sitting in a field, reading a book in the sun. His eyes glittered at the sight of the mortal, only he filling his thoughts at this moment.
"Brave, child?" Crunchy Chip focused his eyes in the direction Life faced, frowning. "Why do you watch this one so often?"
"...he interests me. I would like to see what happens in his life before his time." Brave said quietly, breathless. He could not comprehend the feelings he felt towards this mortal- he was not to get attached, and yet, this curious mortal made him feel things he did not recognize. If he were to admit, he was but a child. Chip was correct at this time; he was a teenager in the mortal terms he'd written. If he were to be part of his creations, he would be somewhere around the age of this mortal in his line of sight.
If only he hadn't been so naïve. If only he'd truly seen the repercussions of having his heart ache when he noticed the young mortal.
If only."What do you mean?" Lifes voice darkened. "Who is the reaper?"
"That mortal you seemed intrigued by." Pure Vanilla sighed. The elder did not seem empathetic, nor pitiful. Only disappointed. "What was his name? Wizard?"
"He...he...what?" The universes creator was glaring with such intensity it seemed to worry the elder god. "He's the reaper? There has to be some sort of mistake."
"There are no mistakes in our world, young one. I'm afraid there is no defying fate."
"No, there has to be some way to fix this, I won't let him go through that sort of pain-"
"I'm sorry sire, but it's been decided." Pure Vanillas tone darkened. "You May go to the Fates, but they will have the same answer as I."
"...I am not allowed to change the fates decisions.." He whispered."Though I may try to steer it differently as best I can, the boy is the reaper now." He said uncomfortably. "This is the way things are."
