Cicero burst through the door to the Sanctuary. "Home again. Home again! I'm coming Mother! Cicero got you flowers. Pretty, pretty flowers." He ran off to the Night Mother’s chamber.
Astrid dodged the speeding Jester, as he ran through the hall. "The peace was nice while it lasted...," She mumbled turning to Jade and Veezara, "So what was it? What did Motierre want?"
"He wants us to kill the Emperor..." Jade spoke still overwhelmed.
"You're joking."
Veezara handed her the letter, the amulet and returned to his usual spot in the main chamber.
Astrid's eyes widened as they darted across the page. "By Sithis, you're not joking. To kill the Emperor of Tamriel... The Dark Brotherhood hasn't done such a thing since the assassination of Pelagius. As a matter of fact, no one has dared assassinate an Emperor of Tamriel since the murder of Uriel Septim, and that was two hundred years ago..."
"Are we going to accept the contract?"
"You bet we'll accept it. If we pull this off, the Dark Brotherhood will know a fear and respect we haven't seen in centuries. You think I'd abandon an opportunity to lead my Family to glory? But this is all so much to take in. I need time to read the letter, and figure out where we go from here. And this amulet. Hmmm..."
"What about the amulet?"
"I'm thinking we need that amulet appraised. I want to know where it came from, how much it's worth, and if we can actually get away with selling it. And, there's only one man who can give us what we need - Delvin Mallory. I'm already sure you two are well acquainted. Bring Mallory the amulet. Find out everything you can, and sell it if he's willing. He'll offer a letter of credit - that's fine."
"I can go back to Riften now? But...what about Grelod?"
"Don't worry about that my dearest. You've been in our family for a long enough amount of time for that unfortunate little incident to be long forgotten. You'll be fine, but for Sithis's sake," Astrid tugged lightly on the black hood that covered partially covered Jade's sapphire eyes, "don't wear your hood."
