Dylan's POV: Man Lorelei had no idea. I had liked her, like had a crush on her for two months and she somehow hadn't found out yet. I thought I made it obvious, not on purpose but just because I liked her so much. I know she didn't like me so I wasn't expecting anything to happen between us romantically but that doesn't mean that I still couldn't like her, right? Anyway dancing with her was the most amazing feeling in the world. Even though we had danced with each other before it felt way different, I don't know how but it did.
I got up, took a shower and put on jeans, my favorite high top vans, and a blue t-shirt. I grabbed my phone and wallet, put them in my pocket and walked out the door. I went to Lorelei's room and knocked on the door, "Come in" her mom said. I opened the door and looked for Lorelei.
"What's up?", Lorelei walked out of her room smiling. I could tell that she had gotten over last night. I was glad, I hated seeing her upset.
"Not much, I'm here now", I said trying not to stare at her, she looked so beautiful, like always.
"Are you sure?", Lorelei said sarcastically. I laughed along."I think so" I said looking into the distance like I was trying to figure out if I was there or not, literally, I was. The freckles across the bridge of Lori's nose seemed to pop out at me along with her long, thick eyelashes.
"Well" she said confidently turning around, "Mom! Dylan and I are going to get breakfast!"
"Ok, have fun!" Her mom said as we walked out the door.
"Have fun?" Lori rolled her eyes as we walked to the dinning hall, "We're eating breakfast and she told us to 'have fun!'?" I laughed and put my arm around her shoulders. She put her arm across my back and we got closer to the dining hall.
When we got to the dinning hall Lori ran to the line that has already gotten fairly long. I walked over to where she was standing and we waited in line. After we got our breakfast we sat down at a table and started eating. "So, last night was fun" I said,"I mean most of it" I didn't want Lori to get mad again."It's fine I'm not mad or anything, I had a lot of fun, you know your not a bad dancer." Lorelei poked me in the side playfully.
"I know" I said confidently, "But it helped that I have a great partner.""Well" Lori said sighing, "I'm am a natural at just about everything right?" I knew that was a touchy subject for her because not every 16 year old had a natural talent for everything. Being one year older than her it was kinda my job to make sure that I didn't bring it up. The topic made her insecure, she got bullied for it at home so she tried to act like a normal teenager whenever she was around strangers, or anyone who didn't know her that well.
She switched schools because of bullying but she just told her mom that she thought she needed to be at a more advanced school where she could learn at her level but be closer to kids her age. No matter where she switched the bullying never stopped, I was the only friend she had, the only one who understood her. I met her at our current school so obviously I'm an unusually smart kid too but I'm defiantly not as talented as her and she is still way smarter.
I felt a little guilty because that subject had come up but I brushed it aside and tried to switch subjects, "So how about you use your talent and we can play shuffleboard after breakfast?" Lori shook her head
"Shuffleboard really?" She said with a smile.
"Yeah, why?" I said, "it'll be fun" I said in a sing-song tone. Lori rolled her eyes and then looked at me with a smirk, "your on" she said.
We finished breakfast and headed for the game room. The game room was different from the arcade, the arcade held all the electronic games (obviously) and the game room had things like shuffle board, ping-pong tables, pool tables, and a foose-ball tables.
We walked over to the shuffle board equipment, got what we needed and started the game. Lori won, of course I expected her to but I didn't mind, she was so humble about it that it made me feel like she hadn't won. Which was fine with me cause I'm really competitive.
After we finished our game we went to the snack bar to get a drink, Lori got lemonade and I got a coke. We sat there for a while talking. Finally I decided to bring it up, "So I know this might sound completely crazy and weird but I need to tell you this"
"Ok, what's up?" Lori said looking up at me.
"Well, last night when we danced it felt-"
"Dylan! Lori! I was looking for you two, where have you been?" Lori's mom had walked up to us and interrupted me in the middle of our conversation. I wasn't to happy about it. But I had to respect the adult so of course I turned toward her and put on a smile. "Hi Mrs. Jessica" I said as she sat down to join us.
"Hi Mom", Lori said grumpily, obviously irritated that her mom had ruined yet another one of our conversations.
"So, I was thinking" Lori's mom said after she had ordered a Sprite Zero. "How about after dinner we all go to family movie night, they're playing Frozen!"
"Mom please don't make us go!" Lorelei said whining, she was so cute when she whined.
"I think that we should have some family time so your going to that movie night." Her mom said in a stern voice.
"No, Mom I'm not" Lori said half screaming in frustration. She stood up and stormed around the corner.
"Lori!" Her mom called after her
"I'll get her" I said, I jumped off my chair and ran after Lori. "Lori, please!"
I yelled after her, "Come back!"*************************************
"I just wish everything could change somehow" Lori said sobbing with her head on my shoulder, her hair smelled like lemons but sweet, like lemonade.
"I know I'm sorry" I said. I hated to see Lorelei like this, it made me feel like I had done something wrong. Like it was my fault she was crying."I mean I'm not really that mad that my mom interrupted us, it just gets me a little irritated and then it makes me think of everything that I wish I could fix but I can't.
"That's the way life is Lori" I said failing to attempt to make things better, as usual, "Something's you can't change, you have to push through life while you have the chance." 'Wow' I thought to myself 'what a fail.'
"Wow Dylan" Lori said turning her head to look at the sea.
"Yeah I know, I'm sorry that was reall-"
"No your right we have to fight through the problems and weaknesses we have, this life won't last forever"
