Dylan's POV: Lori and I walked to the boats with her head buried in my t-shirt. She has just watched her mom die, I can't even imagine what she could be feeling right now. She might be mad that Dave hadn't saved her mom or she could be frustrated that she didn't have enough time with her mom. She was probably just devastated.
As we approached the life boats, Dave was already in the one closest, he was waving to us to hurry and get in. Suddenly the ropes gave in and the life boats started sliding towards the water. The life boats collided with the water and we heard a couple screams. "How are we going to get off this ship?" Lori said panicking.
"I don't know yet but we will." I said with confidence. I looked around, what could we use as a raft or boat. I paused, "Lori, wood floats right?" I said, an idea forming in my mind.
"Yeah, if the weight isn't concentrated to one area it'll be buoyant." She said, there it was, the nerdy side.
"Ok so if we take the bingo sign we would float?" I said heading towards the bingo room. Lori sighed and followed me.
The bingo sign was 3' by 4' it was wooden and had BINGO written on it in red. "Hey Lori can you help me?" I asked already attempting to pull it off the wall."Sure" she said sighing, she gripped the board and started pulling. After three tugs the board came off of the wall and we carried it to one of the life boat ropes we each took a rope and a side of the board and slid it down to the water, when we got down we placed the board in the water and got on. We looked around. All the boats were gone! It was slightly foggy so we couldn't see far. "How are we supposed to not die if we can't find any of the other life rafts?" Lori said looking into the distance.
"I don't know but if we don't find something than we are going to die" I said.
"That's just great" Lori said putting her head into her hands, "I mean if we had a compass or something we could at least try to get home. Or somewhere." Suddenly it started pelting down rain.
" Oh, great it's raining that's just what we need right now" I said annoyed.
"Yeah it is just what we need" Lori said, obviously there was an idea forming in her mind. "Dylan, we're in the middle of the ocean, the rain out here is freshwater!"
"Ok?"
"We can drink it! I mean we don't have anything to hold it in but we can drink it now so we stay hydrated longer."
"Sounds good to me!" I said, to be honest I was pretty thirsty. We cupped our hands and tried to catch the rain. After our hands had filled with water we lifted our hands to our mouths and drank it. It was defiantly fresh water and it was defiantly refreshing. After we had drunk a little more water we focused on finding out where to go. The fog had mostly cleared but we still couldn't see any boats. We sat down to relax for a little.
"So" Lori sighed, "we're stuck in the middle of the ocean"
"Well there's no one I would rather be stuck in the ocean with." I said playfully.
"So Dylan," Lori said intently.
"Yeah, what's up?" I said trying not to get serious.
"Well when we were talking yesterday you were about to say something and then- well we got interrupted, what were you going to say?" Lori moved to sit next to me. Oh crap, it wasn't weird for me to want to tell her the first time, but now that it was the topic that she brought up. It was gonna be hard to tell her.
"Well..." I started.
"About us dancing?" Lori reminded me.
"Yeah about that" is said nervously, i can do this, I thought to myself, Lori is my best friend, I can tell her anything. "Well um, when we were dancing it just felt- different. I mean we had danced before that and it had never felt the way it did then."
"Are you serious?" Lori said, I was afraid of what she might say, was it gonna be something bad?
"Of course." I said not sure what else to say.
"That's exactly how I felt" she said perking up so she was sitting straight. "But I have no idea what it means or how I feel about it." She said sighing.
"Wow, um" I stumbled, she obviously had given this some thought. I can't believe us dancing was such a big deal.
"I never used to talk about stuff like this with my mom" Lori started, a tear running down her face, "I don't know why, I'm sure she could have helped me a lot" more tears started pouring down her face as she put she head on my shoulder. "I knew that chandelier would fall" she said, trying to lighten up the air.
"Look Lori" I said, "this is just another challenge another problem that you have to push through. I know there have been a lot in your life but they have all made you stronger. You've become the person you are now."
"I know..." She said wiping the tears from her face. "Well, we are gonna find a way out of this"
"I promise" I finished for her. I took her hand into mine and we looked out into the sea.
