"Who is it?" the man standing outside shivered, feeling the rumble deep in his bones. Inside, a man smiled, pressing his lips together to hold back a giggle that shook his body.

"You madman. Don't try to scare me. I know you are in there. Sect Leader Lan has sent a letter for you." despite his bold words, the lanky young man shivered again, his lips quivering. He tightened the robes around his body even if the sun was high up in the sky.

"Lan Jingyi," the sound came from above him. His neck snapped back, his muscle clamping up and eyes watering. His eyes met a pair of large red rimmed ghastly eyes set in a laughing and handsome face. Their age was about similar. the man descending face first, in black robes and red ribbon, swung his arms around Jingyi's neck, a hand pressed into the crammed point behind his neck and pulled his face back straight.

"You madman. Why are you coming from there? I thought u couldn't fly."

"I don't. I fell." the madman in black robes laughed in good humor and swung an arm around Jingyi's shoulder, another hand spread flat for the letter.

Jinyi placed the letter in the outstretched palm and shrugged the arm off. The madman walked in with a spring in his step, "Don't wait for me to invite you in. Make yourself comfortable."

Jingyi had followed him even before that sentence began. He was looking around at the dreary cave, there were bats on the ceiling and dry grass and hay stack here and there. Dampness hung in the air but it was neither hot nor cold. Lanterns hung here and there but only one was lit. Despite the atmosphere, the place was surprisingly clean.

"I didn't know a place like this existed near Gusu." when there was no reply, he looked at the man. His black robes blended well with the surrounding. Under the lit lantern was another hay stack where the red eyes were concentrated on the letter. It was a whole three pages long, written in the most heavy parchment found on Gusu with the smallest writing.

"Senior Wei." seeing the expression of seriousness, made him say the words he ever rarely did. The man looked up suddenly and a slow annoying smile spread across his face.

"What are you so happy about. Just read the letter. Sect Leader instructed me to get you along when I return." he waved his hand and himself sat on a drying grass stack opposite Wei Wuxian. Yes. This cheery person in a dreary place was Wei Wuxian.

Wei Wuxian was lost to the world as he read the first line on the letter.

Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation.

He blinked a few times at that address. Sect Leader Lan had never gave him that address. It was always Master Wei. He didn't have to ponder on it since the reason was explained below.

I write this in urgent need of assistance. Ever since Wangji had taken the role of Chief Cultivator, Lan sect is short of hand. To solve the problem and to bring equality between the Sects, Chief cultivator decided to create equality in the cultivators he recruited for the Chief cultivator works but the mingling of Sects has brought a threat within the place. It has been hard to determine where the threat is coming from but there have been multiple attacks.

Master Wei. I address this letter differently because I could only trust it to someone who knew you best by face and would have minimum chance of it falling in wrong hands. In case it did get intercepted, seeing your address, they'd leave the letter and its bearer alone.

If you are reading this letter, I must tell you that uncle has taken retirement and the sect work is on my shoulders alone. In this situation, I cannot be besides Wangji but neither can I leave him alone. Same goes with the sect, neither can I leave it behind or be here seeing Wangji's carelessness for his own security.
