22 || The Promise Though

"Elizabeth!" They yell trying to keep up with me but I was too fast for them.

I run through the streets as fast as I could go. I was determined to get that serum and back to Newt on time. Nothing was going to slow me down. I couldn't lose my best friend. I don't know how I could go on losing Newt.

As I run I hear Teresa's voice over the intercom throughout the city saying Thomas is the cure. Soon I see everyone screaming for the serum. "The serum! Brenda! Give me the serum! Quickly!" I run up to her. "It's here." She rushes giving me one and I take off before anyone can say anything.

"Elizabeth!" I hear Brenda, Minho, Fry, and Gally yell my name following. I dodged all the shoots being fired around me running even faster to get to Thomas and Newt. "I'M COMING!" I scream as tears run down my face.

As I finally run up to Thomas and Newt, I stop in place seeing Newt not moving as he laid on the ground. "Thomas..." I cry causing him to look up at me as my heart breaks.

He just stares at me with his tears falling before getting up. I wanted to say something but no words would come out. The only thing that came out as I opened my mouth were my sobs getting louder.

"I'm sorry." He says before turning and walking off.

"N-new-newt..." My lip quivers as I walk over to his body falling to my knees. "N-n-n-no. Newt." I run my hand through his hair looking into his lifeless eyes.

I hear the others show up but I pay no attention to them as I cry to Newt, "I got the serum though. I ran as fast as I could." Fry places his hand on my shoulder only making me break down more as him and Minho start to cry.

"Please." I cry as Gally tries to pick me up but I won't let him so he bends down.

"We have to go." I hear his voice crack.

"We're supposed to be best friends forever. He promised. I didn't run fast enough." I cry to him as we stare at Newt.

"You ran as fast as you could. There's nothing else you could of done. But we have to go. Where did Thomas go?" Gally tries talking to me.

"He left... How could be just leave Newt here?" I reach to close Newts eyes then kiss his forehead.

Gally stands me up and we all go back to the rest. As we get to the others Vince pulls me into a hug, "I was worried about you. Where is Thomas? Newt?" Vince asks as he steps out of the hug.

"Thomas went back." Brenda tells him and we all stay quite about Newt.

Vince catches on seeing we all had tears in our eyes. "We can't leave without Thomas." I look Vince in the eye as we all get on.

"The city is burning down." Jorge looks back at us.

"The roofs is the only option to look for him and that's if he makes it." Vince looks at us.

"Then we look on the roofs for him." Gally tells them and we take off the ground flying about looking for him.

Teresa leads her and Thomas to the roof top since they had nowhere else to go. As they make it outside they just look at the building on fire not know what to do anymore since they couldn't go back in.

Thomas falls down due to the gunshot wound he had. Teresa holds him I'm her arms panicking, "You're gonna be okay." She cries trying to make him think positive as she takes the serum from her. "I'm sorry." She holds him.

"That's the last thing I said to Lizzie." Thomas thinks back to walking off leaving her alone with Newt's body. He wished he said more or did something since he thought he was about to die.

"It's not going to be that last thing either. Thomas, you're gonna see her again." Teresa gives him a smile hearing a Wicked aircraft get closer.

"I think I got him." Jorge shouts making everyone go look.

"Yeah, that's him. I'll get the hatch. Help me, Liz." Brenda rushes back and everyone follows her.

"I can't get any closer." Jorge tells the group trying to back up.

"Thomas!" They yell his name trying to reach out to him.

Elizabeth watches Teresa struggle to help Thomas up and come towards us.

"Come on!" Minho yells at them.

"Come on, Thomas!" Fry shouts trying to motivate him to move faster.

"Give me your hand!" Vince shouts at them with his arm out as far as he could reach.

"Get closer!" Teresa yells at them holding Thomas up.

"You gotta jump!" Elizabeth shouts as Gally holds her arm slightly to make sure she keeps her balance as she leans forward.

"You gotta get closer." Gally shouts back at Jorge.

An explosion makes the building next to Thomas and Teresa fall down making Teresa help Thomas back up.

"Come on, reach! Come on!" Minho reaches out for Thomas.

"Reach!" Vince yells making Teresa throw him to them and they grab Thomas pulling him up.

"Teresa! Come on!" Elizabeth shouts at her as Teresa looks back at the building beside them. Everyone watches the next building fall onto the one she was standing on.

"Teresa!" Thomas yells as she falls down.

The building slowly cave in behind her till it got closer to her. "No!" Thomas's screams while the rest were speechless watching the building fall to the ground.

"Thomas, Thomas!" I see he was bleeding out making me pain. "Minho, put pressure on it." I cry to him and he holds his hands down on him. "Thomas, look at me. Stay with me." I grab his face and he just stares into my eyes before they close.

"Thomas, wake up. Come on. Wake up." I shake his lightly as Gally gets the wrap ready. "Please wake up. I can't lose you too." I cry as Brenda pulls me back holding me. "I can't lose him, Brenda. I already lost Newt." I cry as she pets my head.

"He's going to be okay, Liz. And I know, I know." She slight rocks me.

"Don't cause any trouble or else because you know what happens." Randall pushes me in a room then slams the door behind me. "It's a girl." I hear a British boy speak up and I look over at him with two other boys who stare at me. Since I felt uncomfortable by they're looks, I just go sit in the corner of the room alone at a table.

As I start to draw a chair is pulled out as someone joins me. I glance up and we the boy who called me out when I walked in. "I'm Newt." He gives me a smile. "Elizabeth." I say quiet since I haven't met anyone in a long time. "I'm ten. How old are you?" He takes a paper starting to draw too. "Nine... My birthday is next month." I tell him. "When did you get here?" He makes conversation with me. "When I was five. My mom was a doctor here but she changed her views." I explain to him.

"What happens to her?" He asks making me sigh, "They fired her. She tried to take me with her but they dragged me away from her." I try not to get upset. "I'm sorry. My sister is here but they won't let me see her." He stops drawing. "I'm sorry too." I give him a sad smile. "Have you made any friends with the girls?" He asks and I shake my head no. "I haven't met any girls since I got here. I've only meet Thomas... he's my only friend... I hardly get to see. I'm sorta a troublemaker so I don't get to meet new kids or him."

"Well we can be friends too." He puts his hand out to me. "Really? Friends?" I look at his hand then him. "Yeah, we can be best friends." He laughs a little. "Wow, best friends." I laugh. "Yeah, best friends forever." He puts a pinky out so I take it with mine. "Promise?" I look him in the eyes. "Promise." He gives me a big smile and we lock it right.

"Minho, Alby, come meet Elizabeth. She's been here since she was five." He calls the other two boys over. "Hi Elizabeth. I'm Alby. I'm Minho." They give me a smile introducing themselves. "Hi." I give them a smile back. "Now you have two more friends, Ellie." Newt gives me a smile.
