So, ten minutes isn't actually that long. Go figure. It was just enough time for you to get to where the busses were. Now they had to actually seat all of you alphabetically. Great. There were quite a lot of people to seat, maybe 100? You knew that there were at least two classrooms full since you and Shoto had different testing rooms, but you hadn't anticipated this many kids.
However crowded the busses were, you at least got to share a seat with Shoto. And the two of you talked, and talked, and talked. It was fun for the seven-minute bus ride to some big ass dome-shaped building, then you were told to be quiet. ugh. You got off of the bus, communed with some of the other applicants, and went on your merry way.
The exams were done in order, groups of ten or so going in rounds. You were in some group with Shoto, a kid named Inasa, and like, three other people. They weren't really noteworthy. Like, at all. That didn't matter though because you and Shoto were going to be the best there. Of course, you were going to be. You had to be. Trained by the number two hero, you had to show your worth.
What if you failed.
What if you just...
...didn't try.
Say you didn't get in. Don't show up. Not go to a stupid hero school.
You hadn't thought of this possibility! Why hadn't you thought of it? There were months before this exam, what were you doing? Now that you thought about it, the months before were a blur. Nothing more than fog. Had it really gone by that fast?
"(Y/N). We are up next." Shoto nudged your shoulder.
"M'alright. I've decided I don't want to do this." You said.
"What? But... we do this together. We do everything together!" His brows were furrowed. Confused. "And I cannot imagine doing this - cannot imagine being a hero - without you."
Damnit, Shoto. I really don't want to do this. What would you even do? Sit around all day? That sounded boring.
"Fine." You sighed. "Together until the end, Shoto."
He smiled and you bumped fists.
"Together until the end."
"..."
"..."
"... Todoroki's, we uh, we're up. For, uhm, for the race."
"Oh, OH! You're right!" You smiled at who talked, Yoarashi Inasa, and pat his head. "We are going to crush you!"
The exam was called to start for your group and the first was a race. A speed test, really. Shoto had lost his aloof nature and seemed angrier. You hated seeing him this way. It made you sad how much Endeavour had a hold of him, even if the flaming shit wasn't anywhere to be seen. Should probably look around for therapy, for you and Shoto. The rest of the family, too. Maybe for everyone. Yeah.
You shook your head and focused on the finish line. Between you and the end was a shit load of obstacles, ones you could absolutely jump over. Easy peasey. And so, when the timer started, that's what you did. Your hands sprawled onto the ground and propelled you into the air over the contestants. There was no one behind you when you reached right behind the finish line.
So, you stood there.
It was only a mere second before the next two came, Shoto and Yoarashi, speeding their way to get to you. Or rather, the finish line. Pfft. You stepped across and felt the freezing air rush past you. Between Shoto's ice and how fast Yoarashi was going, it felt as though it was the dead of winter. It was the middle of fucking summer.
