Avery Salester, an American woman who grew up in Arizona, then moved to Japan to open a bakery and share her culinary talent. She owns a three-story building, bakery on the first floor, and home on the top two.
She took classes to learn to speak Japanese, and to write simple phrases needed for her line of work. For all her other needs, she simply hires a translator. The menus in her bakery are both in English and Japanese. She's found that if it's accessible to both locals and foreigners, she makes more money.
The location she chose has made her large profits able as well. She chose a more popular street, one with shops and a nearby mall, to maximize traffic flow by her bakery.

"What on Earth are you doin'? Come inside, it's freezing!" Avery grimaced at your outfit, t-shirt, shorts, and mis-matched socks. Not even any shoes on! She held the door of her bakery open for you, ushering you inside. "Don't want the warm air to get out... Go sit down, I'll make you some tea."
She watched as you sat in a corner booth and headed off to the kitchen to make you tea. Now, she wasn't particularly good at brewing much other than coffee, but she thought she made a good chai tea. That, and green, were the only two she sold.
Avery poured it into her favorite Batman mug, being careful of the swinging door as she left the kitchen. She set it on the table and sat across from you. "So, whatcha' doin' out this early? In this weather, no less."
"Uhm..." You took a sip of the steaming tea, goosebumps running down your body. "I, uh, I was going to get soba for my brother."
---
"Getting soba again, Sugar?" Avery unlocked the door for you and let you inside. She had a container of soba on the serving counter.
"And, uh, and some tea, if that's alright." You handed Avery a few Yen. "Please."
"No need to pay, sweetheart, it's on me." She handed you a cup of tea, and the container of soba. "I made some already, so it's cooled down a bit. Come sit, how've you been?"
---
"Morning, Salester."
"G'mornin' Sweetheart, there's soba for your brother and a biscuit for you. Let me know if you like it." Avery smiled at you and placed a mug on a table, sitting in a chair. "You feelin' alright? M' sorry if it's pushin', but your arm's all bandaged."
"Ah," You sat across from Avery and took a long sip of your tea. "Don't worry about me. How have you been?"
---
"Hi, Avery!" You leaned on the serving counter and grabbed the tea waiting for you. "Shoto says 'thank you' for the soba."
"Aw, 'aint that sweet of him! Is there anything you might need for the day, hun? I've got a few extra pastries that didn't sell yesterday, if ya' want 'em." Avery displayed a small 'to go' box on the counter for you. "Growin' kid like you needs more carbs. Those muscles you're growin' seem to get bigger every time I see you! I take it you're training to be a hero?"
You softened and rubbed the back of your neck. "Yeah, something like that."
---
Avery sat at the table closest to the door with two cups of tea and a box of leftovers from the day before. She had been sitting there for at least an hour, waiting for you.
It was a rainy day, not many people out, and even less going into any shops. It was slow that day, and it would be lonely.
There would always be a cup and a box, just for you, set out every morning. And, every night, it would get thrown out.
Because you stopped showing up.
