Elena’s P.O.V

“…Can you repeat what you just said?” I asked him.

“Will. You. Marry. Me. Please. Elena?” He said, using a voice that is usually reserved for young kids and cute animals.

I stayed silent, trying to digest what he was asking of me. It’s not as if I should have a problem with it. I love him with all of my heart, I want to spend forever with him, and I’m eighteen so it’s perfectly legal.

“Elena?”

“Shh. I’m thinking.” I muttered, clamping a hand over his mouth. He rolled his eyes, then proceeded to stare at me, making me fidget under his gaze. I can’t seem to keep control of myself when he looks at me. It’s those stupid, perfect baby blues. Those blue eyes that look like ice crystals, but never seem cold when they fall on me.

“Why d’ya need to think?” Damon mumbled against my palm.

“I’m trying to figure out if they’ll be any severe consequences if I say yes, but I can only think of one.” I sigh, removing my hand, and cuddling up to his side.

“What’s that?” He asked, stroking the side of my face with his thumb.

“Ive only just broken up with Stefan and it wouldn’t be right to parade our engagement in his face.” I explain.

“So is that a yes, but with the one condition that we don’t tell anyone until a certain brooding period is up?” Damon concludes, making it a question as he was obviously unsure of my answer.

“Of course it’s yes. How could I refuse such a romantic proposal?” I say, thick with sarcasm, but gesturing around to the hospital room and making it clear he has no engagement ring.

He glared at me, until I smooth the lines out on his face.

“God, I was KIDDING! Yes, I’ll marry you…after I graduate.” I add, to his utter annoyance.

“Why not now?” He moaned, pulling my face to his. His lips brushed mine, then more pressure was applied and I turned into a living, breathing puddle.

I tangled my fingers into his dark hair, and nipped his bottom lip gently with my teeth, making him groan. I pulled away, much to his protests.

“We can’t right now, because I want to get a education, before I let you whisk me away to wherever and most likely give up my mortality status.”

“You don’t need an education if you’re immortal, besides you’re already one of the smartest people I’ve ever met.” He countered my argument.

“I’m not your exact copy, Damon, I still have some impulse control, and right now I think it’d be best to wait until after I graduate so that Jenna doesn’t get suspicious as to why I suddenly spend so much time at your place.”

“But you’re always at our place anyway.” He argued.

“But I always go home. Come on, Damon,” I said sighing, pushing away from him and trying to stand up. I put a hand down on the bed side table, which held roses. Where did they come from?

“I’ve agreed to marry you, so what’s the big deal?”

“Do you really think you should be doing that?” Damon questioned, suddenly at my side. His hands flew to my waist, as I stumbled, but he made no attempt to stop me as I tried to walk towards the door. My right arm had a blood drip attached to it and I had to pull it along with me.

“What are you doing?”

“Walking. You?”

“Watching as my fiancé does something dumb.”
