Elena's P.O.V
Stefan left early this morning, after we agreed that he'd be at the party late, in traditional 'bad-boyfriend' behaviour.
I trudged down to breakfast at half nine, hearing the cheerful voices that belong to Caroline and Bonnie in my kitchen.
"There you are! Happy 18th Birthday!" Jenna said.
"Here's you birthday breakfast!" I noticed the delicious looking breakfast on the table and took a seat by Alaric.
"Did you cook this? Please tell me you cooked this!" I whispered.
He nodded and I did a little prayer of thanks. Jenna was a great aunt, but she couldn't cook to save her life. Or anyone else's. The last time she cooked, I had a week off school due to slight food poisoning. Alaric, however, can cook. He's like Mystic Falls' equivalent to Jamie Oliver, but he preferred teaching History. What a choice.
I dug in, my eyes flickering between the very silent Caroline and Bonnie, getting more and more nervous. It almost put me off the mouth-watering bacon, succulent sausage, and crisp salad I was tucking into.
They just watched me as I ate, their eyes moving up and down as I picked up my food and brought it to my mouth.
"What?"
"Nothing. You just seem stressed out that's all." Bonnie said.
Time for Operation 'Fool-Katherine-and-the-town'.
"I had an argument with Stefan. He's just being a lousy boyfriend that's all."
"What do you mean?" Jenna asked. First step.
"Well, for one he forgot it's my birthday. Second, he's obsessed with his ex and third, he's always so serious. It's like he doesn't want to have fun. It's so boring," I paused, as though I was thinking.
She was hooked on every word, listening intently to every bit of information I was giving her.
"It's just at first he was fun, and exciting, and foreign. BUT now it's just like I'm dating Damon, but without the fun and sarcasm. It's not working, but I'm giving him a chance."
Alaric narrowed his eyes at me, and I looked back at him, allowing him to see my face. I knew if I looked away, he'd grow suspicious.
"Okay...I hope things work out between you. You seem like the perfect couple," Caroline says, looking down at her empty plate. I knew they'd help themselves to breakfast.
