Chapter 32

Elena’s P.O.V

I rung the doorbell, and waited. I have a key, but I wanted this reaction. I glanced back at Elijah and Owen, and grinned, who returned it with a look of amusement. Katherine was out of the tomb, and was already showered and dressed in a set of my clothes. She was leaning against the wall, waiting for her cue.

Damon opened the door, with a very cute grin I might add, and took me in.

“I’ve been waiting, Elena.” He scolded playfully.

“I’m not alone, Damon. Elijah, Owen and a special friend of mine are here. My friend needs a place to stay, and I can’t let this friend stay at my place, so…could you help me out?”

“Who’s this friend of yours?” He asked, his eyes narrowing in suspicion. Katherine suddenly appeared at my side, flanked by Elijah on her left, and slung an arm round my shoulder. Damon’s eyes widened, before he took a step back, and attempted to shut the door. Katherine put her foot in the way, and he opened it up again.

“It’s bad manners to shut the door in the face of two damsels in distress.” Katherine smirked.

“Especially as one is your girlfriend, jerk.” I added, frowning. He looked at me, angrily and exhaled sharply in frustration.

“Why must you do this to me Elena?” He exclaimed, pulling his hands through his hair.

“You know, she wanted to just walk in and make herself comfortable. I decided that this would be the best way. Besides, this way you can keep an eye on her, because I know how it would worry Stefan if she was released and walking around without supervision. Plus, she won’t run, Elijah compelled her.” I pleaded her case to the judge. I looked at him pleadingly, and saw his reluctance slowly melt away.

“Thanks for that, by the way. I thought we were friends?” Katherine questioned Elijah, looking back at him.

“Back then, Katerina, I thought I might have loved you, but you ran, and Klaus blamed me, therefore I fell out of favour. My own brother disowned me, because his doppelganger sacrifice couldn’t go ahead, because you turned.”

“I’ve come to the conclusion over the past five hundred years that vampires hold grudges. Damon and Stefan hate me for 1864, Klaus, Trevor, Rose and you hate me for 1492...It’s all rather tiring, if I’m honest.”

“You honest? Don’t make us laugh.” Damon retorted. I rolled my eyes, and then pushed Katherine forward slightly towards the entrance. Damon hesitated at first, but then moved out of her way. I nodded to Elijah as soon as Katherine had entered the threshold, who nodded to Owen, who began silently chanting. Katherine turned, and tried to bolt out of the door, but couldn’t.

“What have you done?” She yelled at Elijah.

“Katherine, this is the only way I could have bargained your freedom. They wouldn’t release you, if there was a chance that you could run. I’m sorry, but at least it’s about ten flights of stairs up from the tomb. You’ve got running water, and Damon’s scotch here.” I try to take her mind of the negatives of being trapped inside the Salvatore manor. Damon looked pissed too, like he couldn’t believe that she was stuck in his house.

“Can I get out?” He asked. Owen nodded, and Damon looked slightly more relieved.

“I’ve been meaning to ask, did you tell Elena about this prophecy before Elijah arrived?” Owen asked. Prophecy? Damon looked at him, eyes narrowed, cursing under his breath. What prophecy? Why was Damon still keeping secrets?
