~Amelia~
"So, why exactly do you want more protection for your Titan? I can't imagine anyone wanting to harm it," Erwin inquired after I shared my demands.
I felt a flicker of unease at his question. "I don't think that I need to answer that. I've given you your information, and this is what I'm asking for in return," I deflected, unsure of how to explain that I knew Annie would kill Hange's prized Titans imminently without raising suspicion.
"I suppose." Erwin shrugged it off. "As you have requested, I will increase the security where your Titan is being held. If your intel turns out to be true, we can discuss any further adjustments you may have if you provide me with more information."
"But I think that concludes our discussion. I have another meeting at the hour, so I will have to ask the two of you to leave." Erwin announced, glancing at the grandfather clock in the corner of his office. My heart raced as I realized his next meeting was in just five minutes.
Satisfied, I obliged Erwin's dismissal and got up from my seat. "Ah yes, of course. Thank you for making the time to meet with me today, Commander," I flashed him a courteous smile. Internally, I felt exhausted but also proud of myself for handling the situation well. I had been rocky at first, but I was beginning to believe I had a knack for bargaining.
"You're welcome, Amelia. It was my pleasure. As I said before, I shall eagerly wait for the moment when I can open your note," he replied, getting up and heading for the door.
I followed behind Levi, who had been eerily quiet the whole time. I knew he had been listening, his eyes darting back and forth like watching a tennis match. Yet he remained silent, casting me disapproving looks several times.
"Thank you again, Commander. I hope the rest of your day is agreeable," I said as I exited the door Erwin held open for us.
"Likewise. I hope we didn't bore Levi too much with all of our talking," he chuckled. "Quickly, before you go, I think Hange wanted to meet with you again today. I'm sure Levi won't mind escorting you to their lab before he has to go train with the cadets." Erwin gave Levi a mischievous smile, leaving me to wonder how much Levi disliked being assigned to me.
Levi shot Erwin a glare but then glanced over at me. "Let's go," he huffed, brushing past Erwin and heading toward Hange's lab. I politely lowered my head to Erwin as I left, quickening my pace to keep up with Levi.
"Do you need to walk that quickly?" I called out to him.
Despite being around the same height as me, Levi managed to keep a few paces ahead. He didn't respond, but he slowed down a little, still keeping ahead of me.
Eventually, we arrived at the lab, and I realized the reason for Levi's speed—Hange was waiting. However, I was shocked to see another person already there. Apart from Hange's assistant, Moblit, there was a boy with chestnut brown hair and shining emerald eyes, roughly Hange's height.
"Ah, Amelia," Hange exclaimed, pushing past the boy to greet me. "I'm glad that you got my message from Erwin. I can't wait to start more experiments with you today." Dark circles hung under Hange's eyes, making it evident that they had worked through the night after we parted yesterday.
"Who's this?" I motioned toward the boy standing behind Hange.
"Ah, right. I should introduce you two before we get started. Amelia, this is Eren Jaeger. He's the person I mentioned before. The Titan shifter? How amazing is that? I would have never thought that was even possible. I mean, humans are so functionally different from Titans..."
