Grinding my teeth, I regained my balance after another round of bullets grazed the outer layer of the ship. It was hard enough trying to stitch up a wound in an unsanitary environment, let alone attempting to do it whilst almost tumbling over after each explosion or projectile jolted your surroundings. It was safe to say that I was pleased to overhear that we were only waiting for a couple of squads to return.

"Brace yourselves, everyone! We're turning around!" A soldier exclaimed.

Despite almost being finished with my needlework, I paused. Why were we leaving without Eren, Mikasa or the remaining squads? - the whole reason we had ventured into our enemies' territory in the first place. Nevertheless, as I heard Armin slide open one of the ship's doors, my question was answered.

"Damn, you fall in a pile of shit or something?" Levi spat at a scruffy-looking Eren bitterly.

"Captain..." The title came slowly from his lips, not with disrespect, but as if he had lost all hope in the world. Eren looked quite pathetic, grovelling on the floor in his dishevelled state. It made me wonder how he had ended up in this situation. Regardless, I had a patient to attend to, so I turned my attention back to the wound I was stitching up.

A loud thud echoed to my side as I tied off the last of the thread. Eren was slumped against the wall beside me, sporting a nasty bruise on his face. Levi lowered his leg to the ground, his expression deadpan. Two other soldiers had Eren cornered on either side, aiming their pistols directly at him. Meanwhile, Armin struggled to hold Mikasa back, who was desperately trying to break free from his grip.

"Levi!" I yelled.

Levi raised an eyebrow at me. "What?"

"I don't know what happened out there, and I'm not saying that Eren didn't deserve what was coming to him. But we already have enough patients around here. Don't give me more work to do," I chastised him.

Crossing his arms, Levi grumbled, "Fine, but someone tie him up. I think we can all agree that we all need to have a little chat about what the fuck Eren just did."

"I can't disagree on that one," I shrugged, leaving Levi and the other two soldiers to deal with Eren.

Checking on the wounded soldier's leg one last time, I concluded that my stitches would hold. In the meantime, the final absent squads had returned. After dealing with the last bunch of serious injuries, my job was finally done, as the other medics on board could deal with the minor injuries.

Unfortunately, there had been a few casualties along the way. Still, it was reassuring to know that the total would have been much higher without my being here. Nonetheless, being with someone in their final moments never gets easier, especially when, no matter how hard you try, you know there is no way to save them. But these things happen, and now that everyone was back, it was unlikely we'd lose anyone else - at least until the next battle.

"Victory!" Floch, who had somehow gathered a following during my absence, began to cheer about our supposed 'triumph.' However, I had yet to be informed about what had transpired during the mission. Judging by Levi and Armin's reactions, I understood that a great tragedy had occurred.

Pushing through a sea of Floch's lackeys, I spotted the only sane people left on this ship: Jean, Connie and Sasha.

"You guys made it!" Rushing over to them, I enveloped the three of them in a hug.

"There's far too much hugging happening today," Jean remarked, immediately escaping my embrace.

"What's got his knickers in a twist?" I questioned.
