~Amelia~

My eyelids felt far too heavy to open. Suddenly, I was overwhelmed by an intense wave of pain and nausea radiating throughout my body. It was too much for me to even move a single finger. My mind was foggy as I tried to remember what had happened before I lost consciousness. Then, I noticed a tingling in my nose from the familiar scent of antiseptics. That was all I needed to deduce where I was.

Opening my eyes was too taxing, so I listened to anyone around me instead. At first, all I could hear was the boisterous voices of cadets passing by a nearby window. But once I managed to drown them out, I could hear the scratching of a pen beside me. My eyelids twitched; I desperately wanted to open them and see who it was. However, just as I was about to take a peek, the curtain surrounding my bed was pulled open.

"Has anything changed since I left? " the doctor asked the person next to me.

The scribbling halted. "No, nothing," a drained, deep voice grumbled. Levi. I should have known it was him; after all, it was his job to stick to me like glue.

"I see. Most patients that I knock out myself are usually awake by now. But her healing abilities have been working overtime for the last couple of days, so it's good that she's getting some rest," the doctor commented. I felt his leg brush up against the side of the bed. "They truly are a wonder, though. I mean, look at her side now. It's as if there was nothing there to begin with." Goosebumps erupted across my skin as the doctor lifted my shirt. I resisted the urge to shiver.

"Okay," Levi dismissed, earning a chuckle from the doctor.

I felt myself start to doze off again as my interest in their conversation waned. Yet, just as I was about to let myself fall into a slumber, someone slammed the door to the infirmary open.

"Corporal!" a frantic voice exclaimed as they dashed over to Levi. As he propelled himself out of the chair, it squeaked against the wooden floor.

"What is it?" Levi demanded.

The cadet's footsteps stopped suddenly beside the bed. "Something has happened!" they panted.

The doctor inquired, "What happened? Was someone else attacked?" It was a valid question. If Annie had somehow found out that I had told Erwin of her true identity, he could have been her next target. Or, Annie could have decided to try to kidnap Eren again. Both options were plausible.

Finally catching their breath, the cadet continued their explanation. "No, no human was hurt."

My stomach dropped. The only other beings important enough for a cadet to rush over and tell their Corporal about were the three Titans for whom Hange was caring for. And one of them happened to be my best friend.

My heart pumped violently in my chest, and I felt the fatigue leaving my body. My eyelids burst open, but Levi and the doctor were too invested in what the cadet had to say to notice me.

"It was Hange's Titans! Someone sneaked in when the guards were switching watches and killed them!" The cadet finally managed to get out.

My worst fear had come true. Instantly, I threw my covers off myself. Ignoring the startled faces in the room, I sprinted towards the door. I had memorized the route from the infirmary to the container-like area where I had visited Furlan with Hange yesterday. As I willed my legs to go as fast as they could, I felt like I was back on Earth, competing in a race. Except this time, my race was only against the clock.

As I neared the entrance, I noted the two guards stationed at the doors. Before they could even react, I glided past them. It was unlikely they would have let me in if I had stopped to speak with them.
