Author's note
This story is back in the the first of the time skip between season 3 and 4. I was in the mood to write a festive/ birthday celebration, so here you go! I hope that everyone who celebrates Christmas has an amazing day!
----------
~Amelia~
Amelia gazed out of her bedroom window, watching the snow fall gently outside. It was Christmas Eve, a day back on Earth that would be full of festive cheer. Yet the Scouts had no time for such things. Presently, they were far too occupied restoring broken communities and slaying the remaining Titans left within the world to celebrate.
Besides, there was no God or Christ in the world of Attack on Titan- not that Amelia particularly believed in either. They, instead, celebrated a derivation of the pagan holiday, Yule. However, as Amelia counted down the days to the 24th, she couldn't help but notice the lack of decorations being put up. Yet, they at least had arranged more of a sit-down meal where everyone would attend. Sasha hadn't stopped mentioning it all week.
As Amelia was from an Asian household, Christmas wasn't their most significant celebration of the year. Her mum followed a Buddhist lifestyle, and her father was an atheist. Despite this, the UK loved Christmas, and her mum was jealous seeing all the happy families enjoying the season and started to join in when Amelia was a small child. It felt wrong not to be putting up the tree, watching her brother get himself wrapped up in tinsel whilst her mum scolded him.
A smile lifted Amelia's cheeks, and she decided that rather than rotting away in her room, she would join the rest of the Scouts downstairs for dinner. When she reached the dining hall, the first thing she noticed was how lively it was. With all of the doom and gloom they'd experienced as of late, she was excited to see some merriment in the room. Scanning the room, she searched for Hange as she'd promised to sit with them. However, she failed to see their overly excited face anywhere in the room and decided to get her food first and then try again.
Taking in the array of meats, vegetables and potatoes, Amelia went nuts and filled her plate to the brim. She only stopped when she heard a chuckle from behind her.
"Amelia! I see you're taking full advantage of the festive food," Hange commented with a massive smile on their face.
Amelia returned the smile and then glanced down at the plate that Hange was holding. "Well, Hange, each to their own. Not that you can say anything. You better stop before that mountain topples over." Amelia snickered, then looked around the room, noticing a lack of Levi. "Where's Levi? I thought he was with you most of today experimenting with Eren," Amelia asked with a raised eyebrow, surprised that Levi wasn't stocking up on all the food himself.
Hange's smile faded. "He tends to keep to himself around this time of year. I think it brings back some bad memories," Hange explained, ignoring Amelia's previous words and returning for more food.
Amelia gave them a confused look. She couldn't recall Furlan ever mentioning anything terrible happening to Levi around wintertime. "Oh, didn't you know? It's his birthday tomorrow. He never lets us celebrate it and holds himself up in his room."
Levi was born on Christmas day of all days. It was considered one of the most unlucky days to be born back on Earth in the West, as you shared it with such an important holiday. Isayama couldn't give this guy a break.
"Ah, I see. That's a shame," Amelia responded, unsure of what to say back.
Hange let out a sigh. "Let's move on from all this depressing talk and enjoy the one day a year we actually get good food!" They perked up, grabbing Amelia's arm and dragging her over to a free table.
