Dragons Heart

Chapter 3

The weekend is here, the kids have been taking care of the house.

My exhaustion has finely stopped me, but that's ok because my kids are very responsible.

My body aches as I lay in bed, my heavy lids I fight against the best I could.

The cold little hands on my chest were not a bother, the hard chomping of his gums was a bit painful.

"Daddy, a Winslow is at the door, do we let him in?"

I groaned as I waved my hand, and after a moment I heard the front door open.

A tiny grunt comes from Sage as he smacks my chest, he then wiggles over on me to my other nipple to attack.

I feel like a cow

"Doesn't that hurt? It looks painful"

I open my eyes as I look to my door, the fact that he again catches me feeding Sage, and Is staring at my nipples embarrasses me.

"It hurts sometimes, but I don't see why you would care, why are you here?"

He walks closer before crouching beside the bed, his eyes level with mine.

"My brother and father didn't seem bothered by the fact that you not only threw, but forced our pack members to shift back without touching them, so how did you do that?"

Sage starts yelling as he targets my shoulder, I can't help but laugh as I force myself to sit up.

Sage continues to yell as he begins to slash the air, his little claws reaching out for Kane's face.

"Seems like your species is quite violent at a young age"

Rolling my eyes I brush away my hair, Sage settles down as he sucks on his fist.

"Well we are near extinction, so it's in our nature to be this aggressive, and I was a bit curious as to why they never brought it up, in a few words I've split my power, my shadow is under my control, I can still use my abilities but through my shadow, it's weaker but safer to use"

I tug on a tank top before glancing to my side, Kane's dark blue eyes meeting mine.
His energy is so intense, I quickly look away but I feel his eyes still on me.

"How have you become the father to those children? And what has happened to their mothers? Where is this little one's mother?"

My jaw clenches tight as I swallow away the thickness in my throat, to occupy my hands I begin rubbing Sage's small feet.

"I would rather talk about something other than that, memories we all would like to forget, anything else?"

I turn to him, his eyebrows scrunched up as his eyes stay low.

I reach over to touch his shoulder when his hand shoots up to grab my wrist, I freeze up as he yanks me to him.

My eyes widen as his free hand grips my chin, his eyes glare into my own before he gets yanked back.
My shadow wraps around him as I take a deep breath, I rub my wrist as a bruise slowly forms.

"If you have taken them from their families I will kill you, you understand"

He growled, and with a sigh, the shadow dissipates.

"I'm the only family they have, and would you? Why would you kill me? I don't hurt them or starve them, do you even care that much about them? Or just protective of family because it makes you seem like a good person"

I look away, turning my focus back to my youngest.
My life wasn't always about family, but now it wouldn't mean much without it.

"Why would I have to prove to anyone Im good?"

As my hand becomes a chew toy I glance back at him, thinking if I should answer him or not.

"To prove that you aren't as cold as you seem, to others so they believe and somehow that would  get you to believe that yourself"

I feel his figure looming over me, as if he could scare me.
But when I expected him to start shouting, he just sighed before sitting back on the floor.

"It feels strange, having someone say that, and a person I have been threatening, and I've seen breastfeed a baby twice now"

Sage giggles as he blows bubbles with his drool, my chest just feeling bubbly? I'm not sure what to call it.

I grasp his shoulder, this time he only tenses up.

"Honestly, I could feel you weren't anything too dangerous, I've seen dangerous and bad people, you may be a bit walled off and cold, but nothing bad, because if you were well, this would be a lot different"

I smiled with a soft chuckle, he just looks away with a small frown.

I stand up with Sage on my hip nudging him with my hand, he stands up before I poke his shoulder.

"Come on Batman, if you're making me treat you like a child then you gotta help with chores"

He opens his mouth to protest or something, but he then gives me a small nod.

"Good, now, follow me!"

Not long after recruiting him in doing chores, I had to start dinner.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't love the help, not that I needed the help but it is nice having another adult around.

And it is quite amusing, to see such a large man be attacked by children.

But this isn't for long, soon it will be back to me and my kids.

"Kane, would you like some dinner? grilled chicken, green beans, potatoes, you must be hungry"

His smile fades as he looks up at the clock, he stands up and he straightens up his clothes.

He had just started to relax before now, his once soft face hardens as he looks away.

"If you have to go, then go, just remember you are always welcome here, only you get this offer"

He glanced over at me, his eyes warm before he heads out of the house.

The kids were all a bit upset, but they are understanding.

Except for Sage, he through a horrendous fit from hell.
