Dragons Heart

Chapter 13

"How will you get down there? How will you get back up? This cave- this hole is so deep we can't see the bottom"

I smile before kissing Kane on the cheek, I pat the twins on the head before walking to the edge.

"It's time for you to see me as my full self, as a dragon, once Ash and Sage are up here I want you all to run to the tree line"

I only let my wings out before stepping off the edge, I exhale a flame to light up the walls as I fall.
My wings catch the air enough to slow my descent, landing silently on a ledge.

I stick close to the walls until I find a pit, low hiss slips past my lips as the stench of rotting flesh hits me.

Glancing down I find Ash, blindfolded and bound.

"Ash, im here"

I hope down and free her, before we leave i whisper my plan.

I continue my hunt, soon finding a pile of bodies with my baby hidden underneath.

"Find ash, and get out, stay quiet"

I kiss his head before pushing him down the path, I take a deep breath before letting go.

Horns pushing through as my body bends, wings growing to double their size, and a tail growing long.
Roaring-out fire fills the den, my father charging at me.

-------Kane PoV--------

After a few moments, Ash climbs out of the ground with Sage on her back.

"Come on, we need to get away!"

She shouts, I lift her and Sage up before bolting to the trees.
Just as we get past the first tree fire shoots out of the hole in the earth, a dark red and black-scaled beast flying out with the stench of death wrapping around it.

Sage whimpers as the twins growl, Ash watches silently as her hands hold onto my arm.

"Dad can do this, but- but im scared he might break"

I kiss her head as we fall silent, only gasping when a smaller dragon escapes the hole.

Silver, blue, and black scales shine as fire dances around them.
Large horns like waves on his head, large white teeth, slender yet muscular body.
Large wings like a bat, even used as hands, four legs adorned with black claws.
His tail was used like a whip, but moved like a serpent with a mind of its own.

Sage chirped in my arms as little sparks passed his lips, joy in his eyes as he calls out.

"Dada! Papa see dada?"

I chuckle with a nod, his bright eyes watching his dad in the sky.

"I do see dada "

I grimace as he rips out the other dragon's tongue with his hand, his screeches turning to gurgles.
Even though he is smaller, he holds his own.

Shadows wrap around the monster, like a pitch-black dragon latching onto him.

But my heart sinks, just as claws sink into Winter's back.
Things become a blur, his shadow covering them in a black fog.

---------winter pov ------------

We fell to the ground, my back aching as I stand to my feet.

My shadow disappears as I stand over the corpse of a monster, his white matted hair soaked red as his eyes glazed over.

Both of our bodies are bare and covered in each other's blood, but in my hand, I hold a heart, and his chest is left open.

His face was disfigured, frozen mid-shift like a rogue.
The gashes and bites in his flesh ooze as I trembled, my flesh burning as it heals slowly.

I grind my teeth as I struggle to shift them back, my face sticky from blood.

My wings crack and pop as they shift back into my body, and my tail crackles as it shrinks.

I loft my head, releasing a roar into the sky as I crush his blackened heart.

My knees hit the ground hard, sobs ripping through my throat as I screamed.

All the pain.

All the fear.

All the lives lost.

A childhood I never had.

The memories and emotions all flooded back, and then released into the wind.

All the evil I once feared I had, is now gone.

Kane lifts me from the ground, kissing my temple as he straightens back up.

"The twins are with Sage back on our land, Ash is here to dispose of it"

I glance over to see Ash, her hands held out and her palms face up.

"Ashes to ashes, and dust to dust, it's time the earth said goodbye as the wind carries him off to hell"

She growled, black flames in her hands before consuming the corpse.

When I opened my eyes again we were back on pack land, our pack ready to greet us.

So many lives were lost, and homes ruined.

Kane's chest was puffed out, and his brother was soon at his side.

"We will rebuild, our houses lost but together we are home"

Zachary says, Kane speaks up as I rest my head on his chest.

"Our father has spoken to old friends, our neighboring Pack, and they have agreed to host us until we have rebuilt, collect what you can, pack what vehicles survived, children and those injured will ride in them, and everyone else runs alongside, they are waiting for us"

Sebastian, my quiet boy, steps up and stands between them.

"My dad kept his word, he put an end to the monster that destroyed our pack land, and took away loved ones, this is our pack"

I rest my hand on his head as Kane proudly puffed out his chest, his wolf is so proud of its pup.

Zachary nodded, a grin on his face.

This is our home, this is my home.

And I just defeated my demon, with nothing left to fear.

"Dad, I think you might be pregnant"

Ash spoke.
