Chapter 7

Sitting with Sebastian I hold his hand as he is given an injection, he bites his lip to hide his small whimper of pain.

"There you go young man, you will receive this shot every three months until you are old enough for the next step, the shots get better after some time, but you shouldn't go through any changes like your sister"

He looks at me before giving a bright smile, the nurse comes in with a dinosaur sticker and a piece of candy.

"Brave boy! So, Dad, you need to watch for weight gain, and if something starts to worry you then bring him in as soon as you can"

I give them a nod before thanking them, and we soon leave the office to find Zachary waiting for us.

"Hey, Kane is in a meeting and asked for your help, I can get this little dude to school for you, Dad has Sage with him trying out new foods to help his teething"

I hand him the spiderman backpack along with the doctor's note, Sebastian hugs me before grabbing Zachery's hand.

"Alright, thank you, I will see you after school baby"

I kiss Sebastian on the head before jogging down the street to the packhouse, Ella greeting me with a button-up shirt and notepad.

I slip on the shirt before quickly buttoning it up, I thank her before entering the meeting room.

Multiple eyes look at me as I quietly take a seat next to Kane, his hand rests on my knee under the table before he begins to speak.

"This is my Mate, the one I wanted to sit in on this meeting to hear what you have to say"

The other men seem to relax a bit in their seats until the Alpha speaks up.

"Our pack has been searching for multiple missing persons that all seem to have disappeared in the same way, following after a lead we made contact with their captor"

He lays down a photo, I didn't pay any attention until I finished writing everything down.
My body freezes, panic rising as I grasp Kane's hand.

Familiar White hair, large black claws, and blood dripping down his face.

My shadow grows behind me unknowingly, my throat feels like it's closing up.

"We found him amongst piles of bodies, some visibly older than others, and quite a few were children"

The woman beside him then speaks, but my eyes stay on the photo.

"He's a dragon, and it seems the oldest body was a female of his species, there was another but it seemed to be a child as well, we have kept him sedated for our safety"

I rush to the small trash bin and release my breakfast, tears rolling down my cheeks while my shadows link strains.
My heart pounding in my chest brings pain, and anxiety leaves me shaking.

I need to calm down before the chain breaks, I don't think I'm strong enough to control my full power.

Kane helps me up silently, his eyes hold worry but before he speaks i choke down bile.

"That's my father"

I whispered, he leads me back to our seats before anyone says a word.

"That monster is my father, you have him under twenty-four-hour surveillance, right? Chained up well, so he can't escape? A shifter collar on him, and a muzzle?!"

The group all glares at me, but Kane growls out at them as a warning.

"He is nothing like him, and neither is the baby, Winter has even separated himself from most of his power, and Sage has been taught since his birth to be kind, he is just a baby"

The woman slams down photos of dead bodies, young and old.
The man growls as he points to them, each body I remember.

"Who are these women, these children! If you are so good then why didn't you save them!"

I cover my ears, my heart aches at the memories of those I couldn't save.

"Stop this! Don't you see his distress? He was just a child himself, now this meeting is over, I will contact you later"

Kane gathered the photos before collecting me, I squeeze my eyes shut as I try and calm my breathing.

Soon though I am surrounded by Kane's scent, when I open my eyes I see an unfamiliar room.
By the scent, it would have to be his room.

"I'm so sorry for them yelling like that, seeing him must bring back bad memories, you don't need to help them"

He says as he lays beside me, his hand resting on my side.

"But- after what he's done, those women, and all the children they- they deserve to be known so they can be buried"

He pulls me close as I hold back more tears, he just holds me in silence.

Until his father walks in with a screaming Sage, the look on his face making Kane chuckle before taking Sage into his arms.

"He won't stop crying, im sorry- im not sure what I did"

Kane reassures his father that he did nothing wrong, before leaving he apologizes for just running in.

I unbutton my shirt, and as I do so the crying stops.
After opening my shirt I look up to see two sets of eyes staring at my chest, and both are drooling.

"Kane, you aren't the baby"

He looks at me almost hurt, but he hands Sage over who latches on right away.

Kane's gaze stayed on my chest, I pinched his cheek as I huff.

"Stop that, when he is eating you shouldn't think that way"

He raises a brow as our eyes meet, a small smirk on his face.

"You weren't complaining last weekend, you begged me to give your nipples attention"

My cheeks flush as I look away, his chuckle makes me almost forget my bad memories.

"So, how can you feed him without getting horny? I mean anytime I touch them turns you on"

I facepalm at his question, was he taught nothing in high school.

"It's different, kinda- I mean, at first it used to, but then I felt grossed out at that fact, but soon the need to care for and feed him kinda overrides those feelings, but then with you im not feeding a child so my body just- well yeah"

He just nods his head, he rests his hand on my chest but is soon scratched by Sage.

The silent battle between them is won my Sage as Kane pouts.

My family is safe, we have the pack, and the kids are getting stronger.
