Nita stood still as she contemplated what she was about to do. She looked up at his small cabin that sat alone in the dense jungle just outside the village and she suddenly felt anxious, knowing that if she were to go through with what she was about to do, there would be no going back.
There was a presence with her at the moonpool and she was sure it was Andres. What she was also sure about was that he had nothing but support and comfort for her which was what was holding her back before; worrying that by allowing her true feelings for Druig to come to the surface, she was betraying Andres. But she didn't feel that way anymore because it was more than clear that Druig was not the man her and Andres depicted him to be.
The front door to his cabin then swung open, the glow from the lights within casting that same angelic halo around his body that made Nita's heart skip a beat. He leaned his shoulder against the doorframe, his arms crossed over his chest and his legs crossed at the ankles. Their gazes connected like magnets.
"Are you just going to stand there all night, admiring from afar?" He teased, making Nita blink and suck in a breath as if breaking from some sort of trance.
She gave a slight shake of her head and then leisurely closed the distance between them, stopping abruptly when he pushed off the threshold, blocking her from entering.
"Are you not going to let me in?" She asked, lifting her chin high to meet the warm gaze of his icy eyes.
"Is that what you really want, milady?" He asked, nodding his head down so only an inch or two of space remained between them.
That magnetic pull between them was the strongest it had ever been. They both felt it and knew that was the moment that they had to decide whether they should break it, or lean into it. But with her heart thundering in her chest and the heat pooling in her stomach, there was no denying that neither of them were going to break away from it.
"Well I'm here, aren't I?" She said as if it was no big deal, eliciting a light chuckle from him.
"Very well," he said before slowly taking her face in his hands and gently pressing his lips to hers.
A spine shuddering electric current started coursing through her entire body from the crown of her head, to every strand of her dark hair, down through her fingers and toes. It was right.
Druig broke away first but kept contact with her by taking her hand, pulling her further into his cabin. He stepped around her to close the door, Nita keeping her eyes fixed on him as he did so. She found she couldn't get enough of him; his gaze, his touch... everything.
"Did you come to speak to me about something?" He asked in a whisper, her hand loosely held in his. Although he asked her a question, he might as well have just mumbled incoherent words as it was the mirrored look in their eyes that spoke volumes, drowning everything else out.
Although there was still plenty she wanted to speak to him about, talking wasn't the purpose of her visit. So, she subtly gave her head a small shake and he sucked in a breath through his nose, lifting his chin. His lips rose into a small smirk while he took a few steps backward and then sat down in a chair at the table, all the while keeping her hand laced with his. Nita took a few steps forward, stopping before him.
Everything about him was just so captivating. And the attraction she felt toward him was something she was now realizing had always been there only before, she kept it locked away in the deepest, darkest dungeon of her heart. And now she finally set it free. Maybe that was why she could never fully commit to Andres; because a part of her heart had always belonged to Druig.
"Sit," he said, giving her hand a tug until she found herself on his lap, her legs pressed together between his.
His smile grew wider as he snaked his arm around her waist, pulling her as close to him as he possibly could. "You can relax, Nita. I won't hurt you. I would never hurt you," he said and that's when she realized how stiff she was in his arms; her spine ramrod straight, her arms wrapped around her body, and her legs pressed together to the point where they were almost vibrating from the force.
