Nita refused to turn to look at him as she could already picture him perfectly in her mind: his hands clasped behind his back as if to distinguish his authoritative figure; his lips slightly turned into a sly smirk as if everything is a game to him; and his icy blue eyes boring into yours, threatening to turn gold and take control of your mind and body as if you're his toy to play with. Just those thoughts alone are making Nita want to stride up to him and spit at his feet. She could also tell that the same thoughts were roiling through Andres head just by the look of his dark stare.

"We couldn't sleep, Sir," Andres spoke in an even, cool tone as he lowered Nita onto her feet, keeping her hand in his under the water as he stood at least a full head taller than her.

"Couldn't or wouldn't?" He asked. Nita grinded her teeth slightly, always playing his games. Andres didn't respond as there was no point in lying when the man could just as easily peek into his mind to see the truth.

He took a step closer to them, then raised his hands. "And please, enough with the Sir nonsense. It's just Druig," he said, returning his hands behind his back.

Nita said his name over in her head, each time with a more lethal tone. As she was doing so, those icy eyes shifted to her hazel ones as the corners of his mouth twitched upward. He was reading her mind and was amused by it. She didn't want him amused, she wanted him angry or annoyed at the least.

"If I were to become angry with every ill thought my people had about me, I'd be stuck in a never ending fit of rage, wouldn't I?" He said to her.

Despite herself she said, "Apologies, sir." To which Druig clicked his tongue with a slight shake of his head and said. "I said no more of that. Just Druig." She didn't say anything after that.

The three of them stood in silence for a moment, Druig's eyes shifting back and forth between the two, contemplating something in his head with an expression on his face that Andres and Nita could not read. An expression that made Andres squeeze her hand tighter.

"Come on," Andres then said, cautiously starting towards the shore.

"You know, I've had the two of you on my radar for a while now," Druig said as they breached from the water, Andres standing before Nita as if to block her from Druig's line of sight while she gathered her clothes. And again, neither of them speak, give in to his games.

"Do you know why the curfew is in place?" He asked calmly.

Nita couldn't help herself as she said, "To control us?" In which Andres shot her a warning look but Druig only chuckled. He was amused by her.

"No, Benita," he said. Of course he knew her name. He knew everyone's name. "Not to control. To protect you. To protect this peaceful village," he said, looking back into the trees where his compound sat, undisturbed.

"If controlling our minds like puppets is your idea of protection, then you're right," she retorted, a spark of courage igniting in her gut. Andres stayed quiet as he finished dressing.

"There's a curfew because I, like you, need sleep. And while I'm asleep I cannot protect you from the evil that's infecting this world," he said, that playful tone still lingering in his words but not quite reaching his eyes anymore.

Nita nodded, now fully dressed and taking a step toward him, the water soaking the tips of her dark hair staining her linen shirt. "Whatever helps you sleep--"

Nita wasn't able to finish her sentence as the ground suddenly began to shake beneath them, followed by the trees swaying. The three of them were taken aback by what seemed to be an earthquake shaking the entirety of the Amazon.

"What's going on?" Nita asked, the rumbling so violent that it forced her to her hands and knees on the ground. Looking behind her, she saw Andres in the same position then looking forward, Druig on one hand and knee, his eyes darting all around as confusion contorted his features to a look rarely seen on him.

A few screams and yells were heard from the village then after a few moments, it suddenly stopped, everything going peacefully still as if it never happened.

"Was that an earthquake?" Andres asked no one in particular as the three of them rose to their feet, their earlier spat now completely forgotten.

Druig looked around then back to the village where lights were flickering on and panicked voices were heard.

"Get back to the village," is all he said before he turned on his heel and disappeared into the treeline, surely heading for his own hut. Coward.

Nita looked back at Andres, both of them not being able to form a sentence. So, without speaking, they started a jog back toward the village.

a/n:  So, seeing as we weren't given much insight into the environment, feeling, and all around vibe of Druig's compound in the movie, I'm going off of my own idea to help with the progression and setting of this story. I hope you enjoy!
