On the other end of the line, Floyd asked, 'Where the fuck are you, Lynn?'
'I'm still at the GCPD. Dick's gone awol and stole a guy from Blackgate,' she said quietly and glanced over her shoulder at the footage of the helicopter on the large screens. It was cutting in and out. 'I'm gonna be back late, but there's good news on the Deathstroke front. Barb's gonna look into it for us.'
'Good, 'cause I'm sick of being everyone's scapegoat. Thank you, El.'
'I'm not doing it for you. My brother was murdered and I'll get him the justice he deserves.' Eleanor hung up the phone and walked back over to Barbara and Vee, watching the screen along with them.
They had figured out where Dick was taking Crane, seeing as they lost signal on the car a couple of hours ago, and the last time they saw him on traffic cameras it looked like he was heading to Haddon's Mark, but then took a detour away from Blackgate. They picked up a heat marker, and whilst there was nothing there, Barbara and Eleanor knew better, so they requested a chopper. Now they were watching the screens cut in and out as the cameras fixed on two figures fighting on the ground.
Vee threw her arms up.
'Six-billion-dollar budget, and we still can't get a clear signal!' She shook her head from side to side and placed her hands on her hips.
'There. Nine o'clock.' Barbara said and pointed. Eleanor squinted and her heart sunk— There was no way there could ever be a clear shot to take him out. 'Do you have a shot on Red Hood?'
'Affirmative!' The sniper reported back, causing Eleanor to shake her head.
'No, not affirmative,' Eleanor said and looked down at Barbara who was staring at the screen with wide eyes. 'He can't make that shot.'
'Permission to engage? Commissioner?'
'Don't let him, Barbara. He doesn't have a clear shot of Red Hood!' Eleanor said urgently. 'You need to listen to me.' Barbara could only stare at her in worry. 'I of all people know what I'm talking about.'
Vee desperately asked, 'Commissioner Gordon?' They were running out of time if they were to take the shot.
'Cleared!' Barbara said and watched the screen with wide eyes as he took the shot.
'No!' Eleanor yelled and moved towards the screen, watching through the glitches as a body hit the floor and the other ran.
'Did you hit the target?' Barbara asked.
'I can't tell!'
Eleanor's stomach sunk at the sight of the camera focusing on the body on the ground. There was no way to tell if it was Jason or Dick— That was until the blue stripes on the back of the fallen hero flashed through the glitches. She spun around and looked at Barbara, who looked rather ashamed of her choices.
'I shouldn't have cleared that,' she muttered to Vee, her gaze falling on the floor off to the side.
As Eleanor barged past her she growled, 'Yeah, no fucking shit.'
Eleanor ran her hands through her hair and took a deep breath. Dick was fine, he had to be. He wasn't dead, she felt deep down she would know— However ridiculous that sounds. He'd faced worse.
Once outside the precinct, Eleanor knew she didn't wish to go back to the manor— Her problems awaited her there. So instead of heading home, she walked the streets of Gotham, mindlessly sightseeing and avoiding thinking about the fact that Dick had just been shot and there was nothing she could do.
