A bird flies through the opened window inside Jungwon's room. The feathered animal was relatively tiny, and the original owner of the abode looks up from the book he was reading to see the bird land on the small, round table where a vase sat for the aesthetics of his minimal bedroom, and Jungwon sits still on his desk, careful not to make a sound that will scare the bird off.
It chirps, brown feathers taking up most of its body. Jungwon sets the book down, and he was thankful that Maeumi was with Jake's dog, Layla, in the living room. If any of their furred pets were inside of his room, they would have chased the innocent vertebrate out. Or worse, maybe even eat it, as Jungwon heard from some of his friends that the nature of dogs can be quite mean. It doesn't take long until another bird flies in, the same species as the one already inside. It was slightly bigger in size, and it flew towards the smaller one. They chirp like singing as communication, and together, they fly again to Jungwon's bed.
Feline eyes stare at the two birds in awe. The corners of Jungwon's lips tug upwards ever so little, and the two browned birds fly off from his window almost immediately— their wings flapping away in unison while twittering. They fly off to somewhere Jungwon wasn't able to catch up. Perhaps in a nearby tree. Perhaps somewhere farther from his home.
He stands up and leaves his book on the table, hands clasping the window sill. A few seconds ago when he was on his way, he saw his reflection on the window pane. He was wearing a gray hoodie and sweatpants, dressed in a comfortable manner although he knows for the fact that the gray clothing wasn't his.
Can you keep this for a while? He remembers what Jay had said. I've always wanted to let you borrow my clothes.
Jungwon leans forward a bit, feeling the summer breeze blow gently on his face. He hears the chirping again, and spots the two birds resting on the ground. A smile draws on his face as he looked out the window, and—
"Hey, Johnny!"
Three years ago, sixteen-year-old Jongseong says from below, an orange ball rests on his arm as he holds on to it. The dark haired boy was in front of his own house, not yet crossing the street from where their homes separated. "Wanna play basketball?!" He asks, and only then does Jungwon playfully scoff in amusement, feigning a mocking chortle. Jay was wearing a black basketball jersey with red outlines. It was cute, really, a towel was draped on his shoulder specifically for his sweat, his eyes squinted to keep the sunlight from hurting his sight, and not to mention, his adorable jersey sleeveless shirt with matching shorts.
"Stop calling me Johnny! I'm not ten!" Jungwon replies, and earns a pout from the older.
"Okay, okay! Anyway," he starts off, grabbing the basketball and plays with it as he dribbles slowly on his position. "Wanna play or not? C'mon, it's a nice summer afternoon! Mom said to play with friends!"
"Sorry!" Jungwon says. He hates having to raise his voice a little so that Jay can hear him on the other side of the street. "I don't know how to play basketball! And," he sighs; he looks down and gestures at the T-shirt he was wearing, printed with the logo of his Taekwondo gym. "I have training!"
