the new neighbor (cate blanchett x reader)

*y/n's POV*

I get into the car and Sarah starts driving. And in almost no time we're already there.

The place is a really cozy restaurant with low orangey lights and with plants hanging from the ceiling. I sit besides Cate and Edith, Sarah and Holland sit in front of us.

The waiter approaches our table and hands us out the menus. "My love do you want to share a meal I'm not hungry" Sarah asks Holland. "Sure, what were you considering?" They start to discuss what they want to order while Cate helps Edith choose what she wants and I read the menu trying to decide on something but at the same time sneaking some looks at Cate being adorable helping Edith.

Sarah and Holland end up sharing a salad and some pasta. Edith goes with the safe kid choice:  fried chicken with fries. Cate orders pizza and I choose lasagna.

"So," Holland starts "you are y/n right? How did you meet Cate?" I get a bit flustered even though her question is a really normal one. Cate rests her hand on my thigh and I get even more nervous. "Well, umh, she moved into my neighborhood and my mom made me bring her cookies but at the time I didn't know it was her so when I realised who she was I got all nervous but she was nice to me and that calmed me down. After that she kept on being nice to me and then yesterday I had a fight with my parents and they kicked me out and she came to my rescue and well now we're here" while I'm talking she rubs her hand in my thigh to calm me down and when I finish she adds "Oh honey you're making me sound heroic but all I did was be a decent human" I smile at her and we almost go for a kiss but we instantly become aware of where we are.

"Omg y/n I didn't know your parents kicked you out are you ok?" Sarah asks. "Yeah don't worry I've never had a good relationship with them especially my mom, so it does not surprise m they did it, and anyway that made me be here right now and after all what could be better than this" and when I finish the sentence I look at Cate and smile.

"Well y/n" Edith talks "if you want to I'm sure my mom will be alright with being your mommy too" I was drinking water and so when I hear what she says I almost choke while Cate, Sarah and Holland start laughing like crazy. " I sure can be your mommy y/n" Cate says making a pause before saying mommy but without making it too obvious. "That would be nice" I say trying to sound put together but I'm actually red af and well kinda "nervous" let's say.

Right after our meals arrive. We leave the conversation we were having behind and we start eating and talking. Cate tells us about her next project which sound really interesting. She's doing a film with Almodovar based on a book of short stories called a manual for cleaning women. We get trough the whole meal talking, making jokes and over all having fun.

We finish our lunch and have dessert. When it's time to pay I try to pay at least for my meal but Cate doesn't let me. "You'll pay me later" she whispers jokinly in my ear.

We get into the car and Sarah drives us to Cate's house. Befor we get off the car we say goodbye to Sarah and Holland I also thank them for their kindness and they say they hope they  see me soon with a smile on their faces.

We get into Cate's house as fast as we can so my parents don't see me. Once we're in Edith goes to her room and Cate and I stay in the living room. I kiss her. "God I've been wanting to do  this for the whole morning" we both smile and she kisses me again without saying anything but saying everything at the same time.

Just when we finish kissing she gets a text from Andrew: we'll arrive tonight love. looking forward to see you. love Andrew (and the kids) xx

We look at each other and understand that from now on things will be harder. We hug tightly and then we kiss gently. "I promise you my love that this won't end" Cate tells me almost crying "I know you won't let it happen and neither will I"  I say almost crying too and trying to smile to lighten the situation.

Our hearts shater, we know we'll find the way to make things right but the sole thought of having to be apart from each other even for minutes makes us fall into the deepest wells of sadness. 

We play "la edad del cielo" by Jorge Drexler and slow dance to it while tightly embracing.

When the song ends we're both silently crying we look deeply into each other's eyes and we know that even if we're physically apart we'll always be together. We fuse into a kiss and for a moment we become one. We're no longer two people.

With our hearts aching we separate, and with tears rolling down our cheeks I start to leave. Before I do she takes my arm and stops me. "Wait y/n, let me give you my number so we can keep in touch, and please if you ever need it don't hesitate to reach me no matter what time is it what day or whatever I'll always be here"

I wipe my tears and then hers, I softly smile at her. I look at the ground and then with a small smirk in my face I say "Don't you think it's funny how we've hold each other in our most vulnerable ways and we shared the most intimate moments and we didn't even had each others numbers?" she chuckles, we exchange numbers and before leaving I kiss her cheek, then her lips, then the tip of her nose, then her forehead, then back to the nose and after that back to her lips. I whisper in her ear "kiss you soon ms. Blanchett". She smiles and against my will I leave.
