❝ you are the best thing i never planned ❞
Ares grunted, slamming his locker door shut. Sniffling, he pulled a tissue out of his pocket. The cold had hit him hard last night; he couldn't fathom how he forget to shut his window. You shattered the window remember, his subconscious reminded him.
It was only 7:40 in the morning but he had been assigned to tour students from Eastbridge around the Sports block. Their school gym was quite the sight really, with a large indoor swimming pool, a football field connected to another large field for soccer.
This however he had time for. Two arms slipped around his waist, taut breasts pressed against his jersey. Smirking, he turned around placing an arm around the girl's waist pulling her closer. Hayleigh smirked or was it, Katie, he thought running a hand down her shoulders.
Grabbing her chin, he placed his mouth on hers, not breaking eye contact. His hands slid down the curve of her hips, drawing her even closer. Katie smirked, out of breath as they pulled apart. She trailed a manicured finger down his chest, biting her lip. "I'll see you at 8 tonight".
"Uh-huh", Ares laughed, waving as she made her way off.
Turning his head he was met with a red-faced Ember, staring at him. Ares gulped, fuck.
Ember stared at Ares, pursing her lips when she saw the guilt on her face. Sighing, she stepped past him. She was pretty sure she had made her feelings for him clear and if he wasn't ready to acknowledge them, she wasn't going to grovel at his feet.
"Em-", Ares called out reaching out for her. Ember turned back, staring him down although he could see the hurt in her eyes.
"Save it Ares", Ember muttered, clutching her binder closer to her chest as she tried to keep the tears at bay.
Ares pulled on his hair, tugging on the ends in frustration. He hadn't had a girl like him after his breakup. All the girls, he knew only wanted him for sex. Having someone like him or flirt with him for reasons like that was strange.
Ember was attractive. Hell yeah, she was attractive. Her plump lips were one of the first things that caught his attention and the fact that he had a thing for redheads. High cheekbones, her confidence and the way her curves filled out only added to her beauty.
Ares pushed himself off his locker to find the rest of their friends. On the way, he stopped by the cafeteria ordering two coffees, one for her which he hoped would serve as an apology.
In the mornings before school, the group were normally found sitting in the library catching up on homework. Today it was Asher, nose stuffed into his Psych textbook, pushing away Leon's wandering hands.
"No you can't braid my hair!", Asher yelled, grimacing once the librarian shushed him.
"But it'll look good. Please?", Leon whined, playing with Asher's curls. Leon sighed tugging on the soft hair around Asher's nape. Asher had forgotten about his Psych test so he was trying to cram as much information as he could in the hour he had left before the bell rung.
Ares slipped into the chair between Thea and Leon, sliding a cup of coffee over to Ember. "I'm sorry", he muttered sending her a small smile. Ember refused to make eye contact but took a small sip of the hot drink. Cappuccino had always been her favourite.
Ares ruffled Thea's hair, leaning away from her as she tried to punch him in the arm. Sending a nod as a greeting to Adonis and Leon, he leaned back in his chair, relishing in the warmth only a library could provide.
Adonis cursed under his breath as he tried to understand his chemistry notes. He didn't have a test that week but he had taken many shifts the week they had finals so he knew he wouldn't have much time between looking after Onyx and finishing his canvas which was due the following week.
