Chapter 2 | I Believe This Belongs To You

*KNOCK KNOCK*

Shinobu rushed to her door, it was still early in the morning, she didn't know the exact time but she could definitely tell that it was no more than a couple of hours after sunrise.

Today, she had woken up early. Tanjiro and his friends had recently arrived back at the butterfly estate and they weren't looking so well. They were all in critical conditions last night, although they seemed to have gotten slightly better overnight. 

"Yes? How may I help yo-" She greeted, before stopping in surprise when she noticed exactly who it was.

"Tomioka-san!" She smiled, a little flustered by the sudden and unexpected arrival of her fellow hashira, "What brings you here at this time of day, don't you think it's a little early?"

He examined her from top to bottom, she look a lot different when she wasn't in her uniform. Her hair was a lot longer than he had expected, the glimmering purple locks at the bottom were also surprisingly lighter the longer her hair went. She wore a plain purple kimono with a white obi complimenting it. And somehow, she seemed even shorter here when she wasn't wearing her usual boots.

Finally noticing Tomioka's strange expression as he looked at her, she put one hand up in front of her mouth.

"Oh! I'm sorry, please forgive my rude attire, I wasn't expecting anyone this early in the morning, I haven't really gotten ready for the day yet. Please, have a seat and excuse me for a second."

"Wait."

Shinobu felt a sudden tug on her wrist as cold fingers grasped onto her. 

"I believe this belongs to you," He said as he handed over her butterfly pin.

"You dropped it yesterday"

She stared at him for a quick second before returning her conscience back to the real world and exchanging a quick thanks. 

"I didn't realise it was missing, sorry about that," She grinned, "You seem to be in a good mood this morning, exchanging a few more words than usual Tomioka-san."

He didn't react.

"I'll get going now," he said, walking off immediately after without saying a single goodbye

Staring down at her butterfly pin, she wondered, how could she have forgotten about it? It was literally her most used item and was in her hair almost all the time, so what had gotten into her? Probably just worn out or something like that, she told herself before going to prepare herself for the day

That morning, she noticed herself dazing off into her thoughts a lot more than usual. She kept forgetting things, messing up her hair and stumbling over a chair too. And mostly, she found herself thinking about her sister Kanae a lot more than usual. 

Trying to get herself back to normal, she decided to go check on Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke to see if they were doing any better because to be completely honest, she was worried about them last night, and their critical condition.

"Ohayou!" She greeted, seeing the three boys up at looking much better than they did last night. "How are you three doing?"

 A relieved look washed over her face as Tanjiro smiled back at her.

"Good morning Shinobu-san!" Tanjiro exclaimed. "I'm doing much better now, thank you for your hospitality."

Seeing that they were better, Shinobu just gave them a quick check-up before leaving them to rest. 

Everything seemed normal. Aoi was making breakfast, Kanao was in the garden and Shinobu herself was about the get back to work.

Alright, that should be all the work for today, she thought to herself before going outside to get some fresh air.

On the balcony of her estate, there she saw, a tall, masculine figure sitting down, head in his hands. 

She walked over to him slowly.

"Tomioka-san? Are you alright there?"
