I have been around Charlie Swan my whole life. My dad works at the station with Cheif Swan. We live right on the line between Forks and the Indian reservation. My time is always split between the two places. I go to Forks high school but most of my friends are on the reservation. I don't make friends easily so that is why I am a loner at school. When my dad has to work I go to Billy Blacks house. I sit and listen to him tell me the tribe legends for hours. I have heard them since I was a kid but I still love them. He used to tell me to not tell anyone else but I guess he has realised I have no one else to tell. Since I am always at Billy's house I am friends with his son Jacob. I am friends with Embry but I'm not as close to him as Jacob is. I met Bella last March when she moved in with Charlie. Her boyfriend recently moved away so she has been in a depression. Charlie said that she seemed to be getting better. I haven't really been out much because Jacob and Embry haven't been around. I asked Billy about it but he told me they have been busy helping the other tribe leaders with things, I don't really know much about the tribe so I didn't push for information.
I heard a knock on the door. I got up and walked to the door. I looked throught the peep hole and saw Bella. I opened the door and pulled my sweater closer. I am wearing a pair of thin black leggings, a white cami, and a sweater that is pale pink. None of my clothes protect me very much from the cold that is in the air. I am really surprised to see Bella standing in front of my house.
"Hey Bella." I said.
"I need you to come with me." She said.
I looked at her confused. I have no idea why she would need me to go anywhere with her.
"What are you talking about?" I asked.
"Please just come with me. I can't do it on my own." She said.
"Alright. Let me just go change." I said.
"No time for that." She said.
She grabbed my hand and pulled me with her. I grabbed my cowboy boots that were right by the door. I pulled the door closed and went with her. I got in the passenger seat and slipped my boots on. Once I was done I looked over at her.
"Why did I need to come with you?" I asked.
"I can't do it alone again." She said.
I was confused at what she could be talking about. I decided not to press her for so many details.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
She didn't answer me. She just kept driving. It didn't take long for me to realise that she was driving down to the reservation. I have drove this way so many times now that the way is practically engraved into my brain.
We have been sitting in the truck in front of Billy's house for five minutes. I looked at her and she looked back at me. I want to know why we're here but I don't want to push her for answer's and then not have her tell me anything.
"Why are we here Bella?" I asked.
"It's time for us to learn the truth." She said.
"What are you talking about?" I asked.
She looked back out the window and just ignored me. She glanced to the tree line and then looked back at me.
"Get out." She said.
"Bella it's freezing out." I said.
She got out of the truck and I followed behind her. I met up with her by the hood of the truck. She grabbed my wrist and started walking but she wasn't walking toward the house. Instead she was walking toward the trees. I tried to jerk my wrist away from her but she held it tighter. My wrist was starting to hurt from how tight she was holding it.
"Bella what is going on?" I asked.
She just kept walking. I tripped a few times trying to keep up with her. I looked up and seen we were walking toward a few guys. I wasn't surprised to see them but I was surprised to see them shirtless and in shorts. I know exactly who they are because of Jacob. Paul, Embry, and Sam didn't seem as if they noticed me. Jared was staring at me though. I knew I should be afraid of them but I wasn't. There is just something about the way Jared is looking at me that makes me feel safe. I stopped and pulled my arm back to get Bella's attention.
"Maybe we should go back and get Jacob." I said.
"That won't help." She said.
She started dragging me with her again. We finally reached the guys and she let go of my wrist. I rubbed it as I watched her. She went up and pushed Sam. I wasn't really surprised but I wasn't expecting her to do it either.
"What did you do?" She asked. "He didn't want this."
"What did we do? What did he do? What'd he tell you?" Paul asked.
"Nothing. He tells me nothing because he's scared of you." Bella said.
Jared finally looked away from me. Him and Paul looked at eachother and then started laughing. Bella made a noise and then reached out and slapped Paul. I watched Paul as he started violently shaking. I heard Sam telling him to calm down. I grabbed Bella's arm and pulled her back several steps. She moved her arm away from me and we both watched Paul. One second we were looking at Paul and the next we were looking at a giant wolf. I screamed and took a few steps back. I tripped and fell to the ground. I stayed there and Bella took off running. I wanted to be mad at her but I know that if I was in her situation I would have done the same thing. Paul's wolf took a step closer to me. I crawled backward to get away from him. I heard Jacob yell but I was to busy watching Paul in front of me. Out of no where came a second wolf and he started fighting Paul. Once the two wolves disappeared into the trees Sam looked to where he could see Bella and I.
"Take them back to Emily's." Sam said.
I wasn't surprised that is where he was telling them to take us. Emily is Sam's fiance. Embry and Jared started walking closer but Sam stopped Jared before he could reach me.
"Careful with her. She may be in shock." Sam said.
Jared gave a quick nod and then walked to me. I saw Sam take off into the woods after the wolves. I looked at Jared and he held a hand out to me. I hesitantly took it. I was afraid of what might happen if I upset him in any way. He helped me up but never let go of my hand.
"Are you alright?" He asked.
"Are you kidding me?" I asked. "I just watched someone turn into a very large dog. No, I'm not alright."
"Wolf actually." He said.
I gave him a look that said I didn't care.
"Right, sorry. Now's not the time." He said.
I pulled my hand back and he just let his hand fall to his side. There was something about him touching me that made me feel as if that part of my body was on fire. He stood there and watched me. He never made any move to rush me back to the truck.
"Jared let's go." Embry yelled.
"Just a second." Jared yelled.
He gave me a look and I knew he was silently asking if I was ready to go. I gave a slight nod and turned around heading to the truck. I may not know much about these boys but I grew up listening to Billy's stories. I just never thought that any of them were true. Embry was in the driver's seat and Bella was in the passenger seat. I knew sitting in the bed with Jared that I would get cold but at the moment I wasn't noticing the cold. Jared easily jumped into the bed of the truck and then held a hand out to me. I took it and he helped me into the truck. He sat on one side and I sat on the other side.
We were driving down a road that was completely surrounded by tree's. I was looking around hoping that I wouldn't see anymore large wolves. I finally looked to Jared and saw him already staring at me. I'm guessing he has been staring at me the whole time. The look he has is totally different than Sam's look. Sam was looking at me as if I was made of glass that was about to break. Jared is looking at me like I'm his whole world and he doesn't want me to run away. As much as I want to I doubt I would be able to run away. At least not from him.
"Can all of you do that?" I asked.
He nodded. I tried to think of him as a wolf like I had seen Paul but I couldn't even imagine it.
"Does it hurt?" I asked.
"At first. Once you get used to it you don't even realise a difference." He said.
"Who was the wolf fighting Paul?" I asked.
"Jacob." He said.
I looked back to the place we were driving away from. I looked at Jared and seen his fists were clenched.
"Maybe we should go back and check on him." I said.
Jared closed his eyes for a few seconds. It was like he was trying to keep his anger in check. I looked down and fiddled with my fingers.
"Jake will be fine. Sam is with them." He said.
I nodded but didn't say anything else. I don't want to make him angry because I'm not sure what will happen if he does get angry. I heard him sigh so I looked up at him.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"Nothing." I said.
"I know something is. You can tell me." He said.
"I don't want to make you angry." I said.
"You could never make me angry." He said.
He gave me a smile to try to prove his point.
"You were just angry though." I said.
"Not at you. I promise." He said.
"Why do you say that I could never make you angry?" I asked.
"It's a long story that we don't have time for right now." He said.
I looked around and saw that we were pulling up to a house. Embry stopped the truck. Jared stood up and hopped out. He offered me his hand but I didn't take it. I sat on the side and then just hopped down. I glanced at Jared and he had a hurt look on his face. I looked back to the house and started walking to catch up with Embry and Bella.
"About Emily. Don't stare it bugs Sam." Embry said.
"Why would I stare?" Bella asked.
Nobody answered. I know he is talking about the scars. Embry put his arm around my shoulders and started walking to the house. I heard a low growl and then Jared walked past us. Embry chuckled but just kept his arm where it was. I looked at him and his face turned serious.
"How are you doing with everything?" He asked.
"Better. Jared was very helpful on the way here." I said.
"I bet he was." He said.
I looked at him confused. I know he meant something by that but I didn't say anything. We walked into the house and I saw Emily. I have seen her several times at Billy's house.
"Hey Em." I said.
"Hi Rose." She said.
She looked behind us and I saw her smile fall.
"Who's this?" She asked.
"Bella Swan. Who else." Jared said.
I could tell that he was being sarcastic. I walked over and sat next to him. I don't think anyone could miss the smile he had. He broke off a peice of the muffin he was eating and gave it to me. I took it and smiled gratefully. It was only a few minutes before Jacob and Paul came in. Jacob came over to me and put his arms around my neck. He leaned down so he was by my ear. I heard a low growl coming from next to me.
"Are you alright Rosie?" Jacob asked.
"I'm fine. Jared helped me out." I said.
He nodded. I could tell he wasn't very happy but he didn't say anything. He kissed my cheek and I heard another growl. I looked over and saw Jared watching us. I could tell how angry he was so I gave him a smile. He smiled back at me. I felt the weight of Jacob leave. I turned around and saw him leaving with Bella. I don't know how long they are going to be gone so I looked aound the boys.
"Can one of you drive me home?" I asked.
"Don't you want to wait for Bella?" Embry asked.
"She's fine with Jake. Plus she dragged me out of my house this morning against my will." I said.
I absentmindedly rubbed my wrist where she was holding it earlier. It hurt pretty bad but not as much now.
"I'll drive you." Jared said.
I looked over at him and smiled. He stood up and I followed after him. I passed by Embry and kissed his cheek.
"Stop being a stranger. My dad misses you and Jake." I said.
"I'll try." Embry said.
I smiled and shook my head. I have missed having Embry around so I hope now that I know his secret he can come around more. I walked outside and saw Jared waiting. I walked over to him.
"We have to walk a bit to get to my car." He said.
"It's fine. I don't mind a walk." I said.
He stared at me and then reached out. I didn't move away from him. He grabbed my hand and used his other hand to push up my sleeve. I watched his face the whole time. I only looked down when I heard him growl. There on my wrist were four bruises that would fit Bella's hand perfectly. I watched him pull my wrist up to his lips and kiss each bruise. I was a little shocked at first but then I felt the sparks run up my arm from his kisses. I pulled my wrist away from him. I saw his face fall a little. The way he has been acting around me makes me think of Billy's stories. Mainly one in particular. My most favorite.
"Are all of Billy's stories true?" I asked.
"The ones about the tribe?" He asked.
I nodded and watched him closely.
"Ya. They're all true." He said. "Why do you ask?"
"I have been thinking about my favorite one and I just wanted to know if it was true to." I said.
"Which one?" He asked.
I didn't really want to answer him. I felt kind of silly just thinking about the imprint story. I shrugged and he got the hint that I didn't want to talk about it. We started walking away from Emily's house. We stayed quiet until he stopped again and looked at me.
"I got to know. I'm dying here." He said.
I giggled at him. His face lit up and he smiled, The look he had just screamed how happy he was to hear me laugh. Almost as if it was the best sound in the world to him.
"Please just tell me." He said.
"Promise not to laugh?" I asked.
"I'll promise you anything." He said.
I sighed and closed my eyes.
"The one about imprinting. I have always loved the idea of loving someone that much." I said.
I waited to hear him laugh but I didn't hear anything. I opened my eyes and looked at him. He looked completely shocked. I started to peice everything that happened today together. The way he has been acting around me all day is just like the story. If he did imprint on me then it makes sense with all of the growling that has gone on since this morning.
"Jared." I said.
I wanted to snap him out of whatever trance he was in so I had his full attention for my question. He blinked so I know he was back with me.
"Did you imprint on me?" I asked.
He watched me closely but nodded. I was a little surprised but I was also extremely happy. I gave him the biggest smile that I could manage.
"You're not mad?" He asked.
"Of course not. Imprinting is supposed to be a good thing." I said.
He smiled and then we continued walking. The air between us seemed to change but it wasn't a bad thing.
It has been two weeks since I learned about the boys and Jared imprnting on me. Jared has been over at my house almost everyday after his patrol shift. He said that there is a red-headed vampire that keeps coming back to their land. Today is one of the days I am not supposed to see Jared. I have learned to hate those days. I really like spending time with Jared. I have been waiting for Bella for the past ten minutes. My dad has to work late tonight so she said she would give me a ride home. I have watched almost everyone leave. I looked down to see the time when a shadow appeared, I looked up to see Jonah standing in front of me.
"Hey Roselyn. I'm surprised to see you still here." He said.
"I'm just waiting for Bella." I said.
"Bella already left." He said.
"That sucks. She was my ride home." I said.
I stood up and got my things off the bench I was sitting on. If Bella isn't here anymore then that means I have to walk home.
"I can give you a ride if you want." He said.
"That would be great actually. Thank you." I said.
"I'm parked on the other side of the lot." He said.
I nodded and walked with him. I have always felt a little uneasy around Jonah but getting a ride from him was better than walking especially if there was a vampire roaming around.
"How come your dad isn't giving you a ride?" He asked.
"He has to work late tonight because of all the animal attacks." I said.
"Are you going to be home alone then?" He asked.
Him asking that question kind of made me nervous so I thought of a quick lie.
"No. A friend from the reservation is going to come and stay the night with me." I said.
"Good. You shouldn't be alone. You never know what could happen." He said.
I nodded. I was starting to feel even more uncomfortable around him. I don't really know how the imprint bond works but I am just hoping that Jared doesn't feel how uncomfortable I am at the moment. I know that if he can feel it then he will be at my house before I know it.
Jonah pulled into my driveway. I took off the seat belt and grabbed my bag from the floor board. I looked over at him and smiled. He was looking at the porch and I could tell that he was angry.
"What is it about those boys?" He asked.
"I'm sorry." I said.
He looked at me and I could really see the anger on his face.
"Mike can't get anywhere with Bella because of Cullen and that Quileute kid and I'm going to strike out with you because you have a Quileute on your porch watching us." He said.
I looked to the porch and I saw Jared standing there. I looked back at Jonah.
"Thank you for the ride Jonah." I said.
I got out of the car and I saw him get out. I went to walk around him to get to Jared where I feel safe but Jonah grabbed my arm and stopped me. I looked down to where he was holding my arm.
"Let go Jonah." I said.
"Just tell me what is so special about those boys." He said.
I heard someone walk up behind me and I was guessing that it was Jared. I pulled my arm away from Jonah. He let his hand fall to his side and then stood up straighter. If he was trying to intimidate Jared it wouldn't work.
"Maybe it's because we're not jerks and we know how to treat a lady the right way." Jared said.
I could feel Jared shaking behind me. I stepped to the side just in case he started to shift.
"Jonah you should go." I said.
Jonah looked at me and then back to Jared. It was obvious that he would lose a fight against Jared. He walked back to his car and I turned to Jared. He looked down to me and put his hands on my hips. He took a few deep breaths to get his anger under control.
"Are you alright?" He asked.
"I'm perfectly fine." I said.
He took another deep breath and I could see him start to relax. I stared at him and it was like everything clicked into place for me. I realised that there was never going to be anyone else for me. It is always going to be Jared. He is going to be my happily ever after forever. He gave me a look like he was trying to figure out what I was thinking. I stood up onto my toes and kissed him. He immediately responded. At that moment we both knew that it was only going to be us forever. Neither of us are ever going to want to be with anyone else. This is our forever and I couldn't be more happy than to spend forever with Jared.
