I never knew that love at first sight could ever be real until I looked into his eyes. I knew from the moment I met him on the first day of school. My mother doesn't understand. She always tells me "Haily love at first sight isn't real" but I know the truth. Of course it is real. How else would I explain the connection that I have to Brady. Of course there are only a few people who know the truth about him. I didn't even know until recently. I met Brady when we were kids and the connection was so strong then. After learning the truth Billy told me he has never seen a pair like us. To get to that first I have to tell you about what started it all.
Brady hasn't been to school in several days. I know his parents are big on how important school is. He has also been ignoring my phone calls and that has never happened no matter what either one of us is going through. We always make sure to talk to the other but he has completely shut me out over the pas few days. I hate that he has done that and I plan on making sure that he knows about it. I watch all the cars pull into the parking lot. I see the truck that Embry Call drives and see that Brady is sitting in the passenger seat. I start walking over to the truck so I know he doesn't have enough time to run away from me. I stand there with my arms crossed waiting for him to get out but he is just sitting there. I hear a laugh and look up to see that Embry has gotten out of the car.
"Why are you laughing" I asked.
"He doesn't want to get out of the car because your mad." He said.
"He has to get out of the car eentually." I said.
I crossed my arms and looked back to Brady. He was looking at me and we made eye contact. I swear he looked like he stopped breathing. I heard Embry curse and looked back to him.
"Now what's wrong?" I asked.
"It looks like we are skipping school today." He said. "Get in."
I looked at him like he was crazy. I have no intention to ever get in his car for any reason.
"Why would I do that?" I asked.
"You want answers right." He said.
I nodded. He tilted his head toward the car. I decided to get in the car if that is what I was going to have to do in order to get answers. I got into the back seat and made sure to not look at Brady. If he wanted to ignore me then he should know how it feels to be ignored no matter how much it hurt to do that.
"Hey Haily." Brady said.
I ignored him and just looked to Embry.
"Where are you taking me?" I asked.
"Would you prefer Sam or Billy?" Embry asked.
"Billy please." I said.
"Got it." He said.
I heard a low growl and could swear it came from Brady but I knew that was impossible.
"How come she talks to you?" Brady asked.
"Dude you have ignored her for days. Of course she is going to ignore you." Embry said.
"Not like I had a choice." Brady said.
"Just wait until we get to Billy's." Embry said.
I wanted to ask what was going on but I knew I would probably get the same answer from Embry so I just sat back and watched out the window. Driving around La Push is easy. Nothing is very far away unless you have to go into Forks so getting to Billy's didn't take long at all. Once we got there Brady jumped out and quickly opened the door for me. I stepped out and I could see the smile he had. I was still mad so I elbowed him in the stomach before I walked around the car to meet up with Embry.
"I deserved that." Brady said.
I could hear Embry laughing as we walked to the door. I stopped and waited for Embry to knock but instead he just walked into the house.
"Billy I got a surprise for you." Embry said.
I walked in behind him and saw Billy wheeling into the livingroom. I couldn't help but smile at the man.
"Haily what a wonderful surprise." He said. "What are you doing here dear?"
"I would like to know that myself." I said.
I heard the door close and Billy looked behind me. I know that Brady was standing behind me. I could feel the warmth coming off of him in waves. I should have been concerned but Brady has always felt warm to me even when he would complain about being cold.
"I see." Billy said.
"See what?" I asked. "Can someone please tell me what is going on?"
"Come have a seat dear." Billy said.
I walked over to the couch and sat down. Embry walked over and sat in the chair across from me. I could feel the warmth from Brady behind me but he was making no moves to sit anywhere else. He seemed perfectly content staying where he was behind me.
"Is my assumption correct Brady?" Billy asked.
I looked between the two confused and seeing Brady nod only made it worse. Billy sighed and then looked back at me.
"Haily dear do you remember all those stories that I have told you?" Billy asked.
"Of course." I said. "Who could forget about our protectors."
I heard a snort coming from Embry. I glared over at him but he tried to cover it with a cough.
"What about the imprints?" Billy asked.
I nodded not exactly sure where he wsa going with this but I know I can trust Billy.
"Do you remember when you came to me asking about love at first sight?" He asked.
I glanced back at Brady before turning back to Billy.
"Of course. That's when you told me about imprints and how important they are to the wolves." I said.
"My dear you have become one of the stories yourself." He said. "Honestly I'm not surprised. I have never seen a wolf and an imprint with a bond like the one you two share."
"What are you talking about?" I asked.
"The boys are shifters. Brady imprinted on you. Probably this morning at school." He said.
I turned to look at Brady but he was already looking at me. Brady has looked at me several different ways but the way he is looking at me now is completely different. Sure he has looked at me with love in his eyes but nothing compared to this. He gave me a small nod to tell me that what Billy was saying is true.
"Love at first sight." I said. "I've looked Brady in the eyes over a hundred times before and nothing ever happened."
I looked to Billy wanting an explanation on what he was getting at because this was definitely not the first time we are seeing each other so I'm not sure how that applies.
"He wasn't a wolf yet but the two of you have always felt something pulling you to the other even before." Billy said. "I told Sam this was going to happen. He never listens to me about this stuff."
Embry laughed at Billy. I guess the last few days make a lot more sense. If Brady is a new shifter then I'm sure he has had trouble with it and probably wasn't able to use a phone to talk to me about it. I felt a shift in the warmth that I could feel from Brady. I looked back to him and saw that he had backed away from the couch a bit.
"Wow you are rigtht." Embry said. "Sam and Emily aren't even that bad."
I looked back at the two.
"What are you talking about?" I asked.
"You felt a change didn't you?" Billy asked.
I nodded and furrowed my eyebrows. How did he know that?
"You looked at him just as he moved. It was like you could sense that he was about to move and you looked to make sure." Billy said.
"Is that a bad thing?" I asked.
"It means your bond is strong. I've never seen a bond this strong but there have been a few wolves that have had one in the past. Most times there is at least one in each pack." Billy said. "What does it feel like?"
"I don't know. I just feel his warmth if that makes sense." I said.
"That's cause our temperature is higher." Embry said.
"No before that. She used to always say I was warm even before I phased." Brady said. "Used to drive me insane. I would be freezing and she would always say that there was no way I was colder than her with how warm I was all the time."
I looked over at him and smiled. I love that he remembers stuff like that. It's the small moments between us that I love the most. He glanced down at me and smiled.
"Now he's smiling." Embry said. "In the car he was all grumpy and complainy and now he's smiling."
"I don't think it was necessarily him being grumpy." Billy said.
I looked around to him so fast.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Your bond is already so strong I wouldn't be surprised if he was picking up on your mood." Billy said. "That's probably why he had suck a hard time controlling the shift for a few days. You were experiencing a strong emotion about him and he was feeling it plus his own. How did you feel in the car?"
"I was mad but I kind of wanted him to know how I had felt the past few days thinking that he was ignoring me." I said. "I didn't know it was going to effect him so much."
I could feel the warmth of Bardy move and I moved my hand to my shoulder just as he was placing his hand on my shoulder. Embry pretened to gag at the sight but I knew he was silently interested in all of this as much as I was.
"What about on the days you weren't talking?" Billy asked.
"I was really angry and hurt." I said.
I felt Brady squeeze my shoulder. I took comfort in the feeling he was providing.
"I'm almost sure that the two of you can feel the other's emotions when they are strong enough. Brady just notices it more because of being a wolf." Billy said.
"Great so we need to make sure that she doesn't get overly angry to." Embry said.
"I don't think it works that way. From past legends the imprinter can feel the emotions that his imprint has in regards to him. Brady just needs to make sure he doesn't make Haily overly angry with him and they should be fine." Billy said. "The main things he would feel all the time would be her sadness and fear."
"How would I know if its coming from her?" Brady asked.
"When it happens you'll know." Billy said.
I couldn't stop the feeling of guilt and sadness I had. I had made the past few days even worse for Brady and I didn't even know it. Of course if I would have known then I wouldn't have done it.
"What happens to a shifter when they can't control their anger?" I asked.
"They keep shifting. It takes a while to shift back until they can calm down and the moment they get angry again they shift until they can get the shifting under control." Embry said.
"What does shifting feel like?" I asked.
"Man the first few times suck. I swear my body was sore for days from how bad it hurt." Embry said.
I felt the rush of sadness again. I had made him keep shifting by being so angry at him. I had caused him pain by making him do that.
"It wasn't your fault Haily. You didn't know." Brady said.
I looked back at him. Billy was right. I have always told Billy that I thought Brady and I had love at first sight. I guess it took him turning into a wolf to confirm that it was true. I'm glad that Brady is the one that imprinted on me. I would never have wanted it to be anyone else. Looking into his eyes I can see out forever. I have always seen forever looking into his eyes. Now I just know we will have forever. All of the things that I have thought of happening in our future will happen together. I won't ever have to worry about him wanting those things with anyone else because we both want them with each other. Becoming his imprint just confirms that for the both of us. The future doesn't seem so bad now that I know he will always be by my side. I couldn't be happier to know that even as a child I was right about him. Being right about him is the best thing that has ever happened in my life and I can't wait to experience everything with him.
