The last year and a half had been challenging in ways Elphaba, Glinda and the Animal Rights Defense Force never dreamed of, as they travelled across Oz helping the Animal resistance to oppose the Wizard. They spent time aiding poor Animals who had been driven from their homes, assisting the Animals who ran the intelligence networks for the resistance by spying on and intercepting the Wizard's communiques to his troops, and running interference to distract the Gale Force guards from vulnerable Animal refugees.
It was ridiculous how easy it was to spy on the Wizard's officers by hovering overhead in the darkness. The soldiers always checked the area before setting up camp, but they never thought to check overhead. They knew though it wasn't enough. They needed more allies, and the support of people who had the power or the position to make a positive change. They headed to Elphaba's home in Munchkinland. Elphaba thought if she could just persuade her father to lend his support to the cause we might be more influential in getting our message out to all the citizens across Oz.
The group arrived at the Governor's mansion. Elphaba whispered "You guys wait out here. She slipped in through the open window she knew would lead to her father's office. She heard voices so she quickly hid in a large cupboard and waited to see who would appear.
Nessarose wheeled herself into the room and positioned herself at the desk. A servant in uniform followed her in and promptly served her a cup of tea. She was startled to find that the servant was none other than her old classmate, Boq.
"Will there be anything else, Madame?" asked Boq politely.
"Boq, I told you to call me Nessa." She said.Yes, Madame.' said Boq, and he exited the room.
"Boq!" Nessa called after him, but the door had already shut behind him.
"Well, it seems the beautiful get more beautiful.' I said coldly. Nessa jumped in her chair almost spilling her teacup as I stepped out from my hiding place. 'While the green just get greener. I'm sorry, did I scare you? I seem to have that effect on people. It's good to see you.
"What are you doing here?" Nessa demanded.
"Well, there's no place like home.' Elphaba said matter-of-factly. "I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but I need Father's help. I need him to stand with me."
Nessa shook her head. "That's impossible."
"No it's not.' I argued. "Not if you ask him. He'll do it for you, Nessa. I know he will."
Nessa shook her head. "Elphaba, you don't understand. Father joined the Anti Animal Rights Force, and so have I." She then showed Elphaba her badge. Elphaba was stunned. "How could someone join such a horrible organization?" She thought to herself. Nessa was wheeling herself out. "I was just about to go to the Wizard's headquarters to join the group. Do you want to join me?" She asked. Elphaba just walked out of the house, slamming the door shut behind her.Nessa then began to have conflicting emotions. "Sweet Oz, is this the right thing to do?" She thought to herself. She then decided that it was, and left to catch up with her father.
One of the soldiers went up to Elphaba. "I take it that asking her didn't go well?" "No!" Elphaba snapped, causing the soldier to jump slightly. "Nessa told me that she would join that Oz damned Anti Animal Rights Force and then had the nerve to ask ME if I wanted to join!" The soldier was also taken aback. "I'm sure she didn't mean it..." "WELL OF COURSE SHE DID!" Elphaba yelled. "Shhhhh! We can't be heard, otherwise the Gale Force would be alerted to our presence." The soldier reminded. After that, the group headed back towards the castle.
