This is a Peaky Blinders AU i started ages ago and never edited but I'm in isolation again right now so started rewatching.
Not overly happy with it still but the idea of Ant as a mobster is hot so I thought I'd share.
Declan remembered when he first saw him, remembered his stoney blue eyes and chiselled features.
He still remembered the conversation with bubbling rage.
It had been his first day at the bar, he was pouring pints for a mob of men when his boss placed a hand on his shoulder, "See that man there."
Dec had jumped but looked quickly, his eyes settling on an black haired man, neatly dressed in blacks and greys. His silence stuck out like lightning in a storm, he had his head down and elbows lent atop the bar. The young lad nodded, swallowing thickly, something about that man intrigued him but also scared him half to death.
"Get him a glass of Irish whisky. On the house."
Knowing there was no room for hesitation, Declan ditched the Pint of Newcastle brown he'd been serving and poured out the drink, rushing it to the dark haired figure waiting at the end of the bar.
As he placed down the rocks glass, Dec's eyes landed on the specks of blood littering the smartly dressed man's colour and that's when his eyes were struck by piercing, empty blue.
When the man said nothing, Dec whispered meekly, "On the house."
There was another silence and Declan failed to hold a stare with such a deeply hollow gaze. His green eyes fell and he shuffled on his feet, oblivious to why he'd stayed so long.
"You're Irish."
The man stated and Dec's eyes lifted a centimetre before changing their mind and falling back submissively.
"O-on my mothers side, sir."
"A whore?" A man beside him asked with a mocking laugh.
The lad clenched his fist but controlled his temper partly through fear, partly to use it to meet the black haired man's gaze, ignoring the other man's presence but still replying to his words, "My mother was a good woman."
Dark blue eyes remained emotionless as he sipped from his whiskey, unshaken.
A different man spoke this time, one who held resemblance to the silent man. "Your mother spread her legs to a Geordie traveller no doubt. A sin only the devil would approve of."
A gaggle of men in the pub laughed and on the inside, the young boy raged.
Suddenly the laughter stopped and Dec's eyes fixed on the hand that caused it. The callous tanned skin of that dark haired man held in the air and reigned the volume of an entire room. Turning men to mice.
The man continued to say nothing without provocation, he continued to rattle the young lad to the core.
"My Mam was married when she had me. Right here in Newcastle."
For the first time since he entered, black haired man proved he could say more than just two words, and proved he was no nicer than the company he kept. "Just because you're not a bastard doesn't make you any less of a whores-son."
