Rose looked at her, and said, “You have to make a decision, Anika. Save the life of your husband or the life of your child. In order to save a life, a life must be taken. I’m sorry.”

Anika looked at her husband and said, “I’m sorry, Lucka. I will always love you. Save our child, please.”

Rose got all the blankets that were in the cabin for Anika to lay on; Rose washed her hands and sterilized all her tools she brought in her medicine bag.

Anika was screaming from the pain and the pushing; Rose saw the baby crowning and told Anika to push one last time.

The baby came out crying and Rose cut the umbilical cord and wrapped the baby in a blanket and she told Anika it was a girl.

Once Anika heard that, she awed and said, “Lucka, look, it’s Loqui. Don’t worry, my love, I’ll keep her safe. I promise.”

After Rose made sure Anika and the baby were safe and secure, Rose went outside to help the wolves. The female wolf was howling and whimpering; Lykina turned her sharp eyes towards Rose and growled. “Don’t be frightened, Lykina, I’m here to help if I can.”

Lykina nudged the body of her mate who was barely alive, indicating that she wants him to be saved.

Rose grabbed her medicine kit and took out a vial of green cream; she placed some on Lycon’s wound and chanted, “Oh mother nature, take the life that is given and give this one back to earth. Sana.”

In that instant, Lycon was healed; Lykina touched her nose with his, but they both stared at their dead pup and wept.

Rose got a nervous feeling again; she rushed to go check on the baby and her mother. She walked in the cabin and heard the baby crying, but Anika was as still as ever; Rose examined the body as she held the baby and noticed that Anika slit her own throat; tears fell from Rose’s eyes.

She knew that Anika trusted her enough to protect her daughter because she couldn’t do it herself. Outside the cabin, Lykina and Lycon buried their son’s body next to a random tree; Rose walked out with the baby and laid her down in front of the wolves while she was burying Anika and Lucka.

After everything was cleaned up in the cabin to where only the furniture was left, Rose picked up the baby and her medicine kit; she looked at the wolves, as they bowed their heads, one last time before they parted ways.

Lycon and Lykina said in unison, “Until we meet again, baby protector.”

Rose turned around, “Live long and prosper Lykina and Lycon.”

Rose took the baby back to her cabin; she made a declaration, “I vow that once you come of age, Loqui, I will tell you the story of your parents and your birth.”

The wolves went to find a new home so they could try to start a new life. Lycon turned and looked at his mate while they were walking through the forest and declared “We will never make that mistake ever again. We will protect our child or children until they are old enough to take care of themselves.” Lykina and Lycon howled and continued on with their journey.
