18 years later…............

Loqui is all grown up and she lives with the woman that took care of her, Rose, in a town called Hearingsville; since she was a mute, the townsfolk knew her as the mute girl. She did just about everything that would help put food on the table- helping the farmers, the baker, and the fishermen.

Rose was a florist and a healer. They both were well known by the townspeople, and they didn’t cause any trouble, until one day trouble found them.

On a cool breeze morning, a female wolf laid low in the tall grass to keep its body from being seen while watching its target, not that the gigantic forest was not enough covering.

Loqui and Rose were setting up for their picnic they had every Saturday. They had the most delicious fruit bowl-pineapples, strawberries, mangos, grapes, watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew. Along with that, there was bread and ham to make sandwiches. To top it all off, there was a big jug of freshly made lemonade that Loqui made with Rose.
The wolf’s mouth was watering, along with the hunger pains that were kicking in from the variety of food she laid eyes on. She had a thought to calm her hunger, but she could not focus on just that; she had to anticipate what the prey would do if she showed herself.

Not waiting any longer, she crept step by step towards the picnic area. As soon as the women came out of the cabin, their eyes shot straight out at the wolf and the wolf sharply locked eyes with them. The wolf’s eyes were as dark as a new moon, its teeth were as sharp as a tack, and the ferocious growl could cause any human to vigorously shake with goose bumps.

Staring at this furious wolf, Rose felt like she knew the wolf, but just in case it was a rogue beast, she stepped in front of Loqui to protect her; she was not experienced with fighting off any kind of animal, but she knew she had to protect Loqui; she promised to protect her. The flourist was so eager to use her magic, but she knew she would have to tell Loqui everything. With thinking about what she should do and being frantic about the beast in front of her, she wondered why Loqui was not terrified of the wolf, but curious.

Caught up in how the wolf would rip them both to shreds if either one of them moved, Rose had tunnel vision which caused her not to see what Loqui saw-a cub wolf.
Loqui inferred that maybe the female wolf was the cub’s mother. The baby wolf and her locked eyes; the cub’s eyes were as innocent as Loqui’s. Loqui had an idea; she wasn’t sure if it would work, but she had to try something. She placed her hand on Rose’s shoulder to get her attention; Rose turned around and Loqui walked around her, so she would be standing in front of Rose.

Loqui grabbed Rose’s face and turned it to the wolf cub who was behind the back leg of the female wolf. Rose had a flashback of the wolves that lost their baby 18 years ago. Rose’s eyes calmed only a fraction once she saw the cub because she figured that this female wolf was the same wolf from 18 years ago, but she knew that their baby died due to Luka hacking him with an ax. At this moment, Rose didn’t know what to believe.
