The four of them ended up in Germany, a pitstop on their way to a safe house Maddie had kept off the grid. A few years after she had joined the team, Natasha had taught Maddie the importance of having a backup plan and so just like Clint had kept his family off the books, Maddie had a few secrets of her own. Fortunately she had never had a reason to need the safehouse until now but thanks to Nat's advice she was fully prepared for the current situation. It stung a little that Nat wasn't on her side in all of this but Maddie tried not to take it too personally. Everyone was just trying to do what they thought was right. Admist all the stress and worry that had led to their fighting, Maddie had felt that overpowering sense of right in every single one of them. She couldn't fault them for that, even if it did end with half of her friends, her family, hunting the man she loved.

They pulled up in the parking garage next to a plain van and Steve and Sam got out first, letting Bucky move the seat up so him and Maddie could climb out too. He stretched, his body aching from being cooped up for such a long time. The van opened and Wanda and Clint stepped out. Maddie gave Steve a questioning look before practically running into Wanda's open arms.

"What happened? Last I heard you were on house arrest?" Maddie asked, hugging her friend tightly.

"yeah, well I figured it was time to get off my ass" Wanda joked, squeezing Maddie just as tightly.

"hey Clint" she greeted and Clint ruffled her hair.

"you know I wouldn't have called if I had any other choice" Steve greeted Clint with a warm handshake.

"Hey man you're doing me a favour" Clint responded, "besides, I owe a debt" he said glancing back at Wanda.

"How about our other recruit?" Steve asked.

Clint walked back over to the van, tapping on the side before he opened up the side door.

"He's raring to go. Had to put a little coffee in him but..."

The door slammed, causing the man I side to start awake. He groggily stepped out the van, shielding his eyes against the bright light.

"what time zone is this?" He grunted as he hit the floor.

Clint pushed him forwards, ignoring his question. The man's jaw dropped in shock as he registered who he was standing in front of.

"Captain America!" he shook his hand and Steve returned the greeting.

"Mr Lang."

Maddie met Bucky's eyes and chuckled as they watched Lang fangirl over Steve. She couldn't really blame him, the first time she had met Steve she had been too unconscious and too scared to say anything but the first few weeks out of the infirmary it was difficult to get used to walking in on Captain America eating cereal.

"I'm shaking your hand too long" Lang realised and Steve chuckled.

"wow, this is awesome" he turned to Wanda and Maddie, "Captain America" he repeated gesturing at Steve.

The girls smiled and he did a double take, pointing towards them now, "I know you too, you guys are great!"

He reached out and grasped Steve's arms as if he couldn't help himself and Maddie coughed to cover up her snort.

"I know you know a lot of super people, so thinks for thanking of me" he managed to get out, still clearly affected by the fact he was stood in front of Captain America.

Steve tilted his head and half smirked at the man's jumbled sentence but he didn't respond as Lang now addressed Sam.

"Hey man!" he said as if they were old friends.
