After class Brad was again called up to the front of the room. He seemed mad when he caught up with Sofia, but she couldn't be sure.

"What happened?" Sofia asked walking next to him.

He turned to glare at her. "Why don't you go ask your boyfriend!"

Sofia stopped walking and stared after a speedily retreating Brad. She turned around and walked back to the classroom. "What did you say to him?" She demanded walking straight up to Anthony's desk.

Anthony sighed and looked up. "What are you talking about?"

Sofia glared. "You told Brad something and now he's mad at me!"

Anthony leaned back, amused. "How can you be sure it was something I said and not something you did?"

Sofia glared. "Just tell me."

Anthony's composure returned. "If you must know, I warned him not to distract you in class anymore. That's all."

Sofia scowled at him. "Why? Why would you do that?"

He rolled his eyes. "He's obviously short tempered to get mad at you for something I said."

Sofia glared at him, then she turned to leave.

The next few weeks were tense. Brad and Anthony seemed to be constantly at each others throats and Sofia was always in the middle. Sofia was staring off into space when Sala sat down her test.

"Miss Evans, I'd like to see you after class. Miss Evans?"

Sofia was startled. "Huh?"

"I need to see you after class."

"Yes, sir" She mock saluted him. This got her a glare from Sala, a strange look from Brad, and a snicker from across the room.

After class Sofia walked up to Sala's desk. The curtsied and bowed her head. "How may I serve you?

Sala rolled his eyes. "I'm in no mood for your mocking today."

"But, I do not mock, I'm here to serve you." She barely managed to keep a straight face.

"You aren't majoring in theater, so please don't try to act."

Sofia glared. "Fine. What do you want?" She snapped.

"I don't want anything."

"Th-"

Anthony held up his hand. "My parents asked me to ask you over for Thanksgiving dinner, next Thursday. Don't be late."

"You didn't tell me what time."

"You can guess."

Sofia feigned offense. Then she turned and almost skipped away.

"Miss Evans."

Sofia turned to face his hard scowl.

"What has happened to you?"

Sofia's face changed. "Since I'm always somehow dragged into the fights you and Brad have, I've decided to treat you both differently."

"Why?"

"Because if I do, maybe you two will get angry enough at me, you'll stop fighting for two seconds."

"Do you know how ridiculous and insane you sound."

"Yes, I know."

Classes were cancelled the following Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for Thanksgiving. Plus, living in northern Colorado meant winter came quite early and the first drops of snow were expected to appear that Friday.
