Author's Note:

Have you picked up the hints that I left in the past chapters on the identity of Alexa's ex-girlfriend? Isn't the proximity in the timeline of Aspen's marriage and Alexa's 'breakup' too much of a coincidence?

(Probably) Interesting Information about Justine before you proceed: She has a tattoo; it is located to the back of her left shoulder up to the side of her neck. The design consists of three butterflies.

Alexa's POV

I can feel my phone vibrating repeatedly as I was moving farther and farther from the main house of the Claverias; I was on my way to the parking lot. I am clearly aware on who was causing this though, I did not see the need to look onto it right away. On top of that, I do not think that I am capable of communicating with her as of the moment.

Although I told that I was willing to let her go once she has weighed things out and came up with a decision to stop whatever was going on between us two, it doesn't mean that it won't hurt at all. I am still a human after all, I am entitled with feelings. I was walking mindlessly towards my car. I gripped onto the handle of my car door as soon as I reached it. I was on the verge of breaking down because of the overwhelming pain as the clip of Maurice keeping her mouth closed earlier played all over again within my my head. Why did I even anticipate her to object? Of course, she wouldn't...

I shook my head in a desperate attempt to brush the clip off my head before I got into the driver's seat. I took my phone out of my pocket, tossing to the shotgun seat. It kept lighting up and vibrating. While, I just leaned back for a moment, taking my breathing exercises to calm myself down.

Soon, I felt like I regained the ability to drive sensibly so I buckled my seatbelt then started the car. I glanced at the house for the last time, she really did not come out to chase me. I heaved a sigh before I stepped on the gas pedal lightly, driving away.

"So, that explains why you were more likely to be nowhere to be found after the classes that you teach over the past few weeks. You have been hooking up with Maurice... why haven't you told me about it earlier?" Lia uttered upon learning everything that happened between Maurice and I, except for what happened earlier today though. I haven't told her about it yet.

"She did not want to let anyone know about us..." I mumbled in response, taking a shot of vodka.

"Maurice is such a red flag. I regret initiating the entire diner thingy now because it sparked up the hope in you one way or another. You could've seen it when she refused to let me know about what's going on between the two of you. You told her about who I really am in your life after all, haven't you?" I weakly nodded in response, making her even more frustrated. "She was clearly unwilling to commit..." Lia paused, gritting her teeth. "and she was afraid that people close to you will come after her for that."

"You couldn't put all the blame on Maurice since I also knew that she was engaged right from the start, and because of that; she obviously cannot commit to me. In addition to that, I permitted her to back away anytime. I slightly hoped that she wouldn't though, but that wasn't the case. I am greatly responsible for my agony right now..." I uttered in defense, taking another shot of vodka.
