Maurice's POV

"Sorry to bother you this late at night, but I needed someone to talk with." I hastily mumbled over the phone as soon as Alexa picked the call up.

I can hear soft noises coming from the other line, followed by the squeaking of a bed. It seemed like that she just got up of her bed. I felt quite bad for waking her up now.

"It's okay... yeah, yeah, I am here to listen... what is it about?" She replied, her voice was husky. Whatever you call it, you can clearly identify that she has just woken up. It honestly caught me off guard.

"W-well, I-I..." I paused for a moment upon realizing that I stutter, collecting myself together. I felt like I lost the ability to properly talk upon hearing that voice on her. I can feel something built up within my stomach once more. Why am I being like this?

I shook my head, brushing the thought off. Afterwards, I took a deep breath which I believe that she clearly heard.

"Is it that bad?" Alexa broke the silence by asking a question upon catching how my breathing sounded. Her voice was still sinfully husky. However, I can greatly recognize the concern surrounding it.

"No, no. It is not something that you must excessively worry about though... I believe. I would prefer talking about it in person rather than over the phone, since there is a risk that someone in our household would overheard us talking about this, and I am not willing to take that risk."

"You believe?" She scoffed.

"Now, that sounds something that I should be worried about, considering that you are not even willing to take the risk of us being overheard while talking about it."

I frowned.

"Come on-" I whined, earning a chuckle from Alexa.

"Okay, okay, enough of this... seeing on how this is going, you are implying that I should go and pick you up , huh?"

"Well, obviously... yes. You are clearly aware that the sound of me starting up the car would startle everyone in the house."

I can honestly think of Alexa rolling her eyes at me for this.

"Hang on, seriously?" She paused for a moment. "At 12:29 AM, Maurice Claveria... can't this wait until tomor-- I mean, later?"

"I am afraid that I would not be able to go to sleep without having this being talked over." I can hear groan in defeat.

"Okay, fine, I will do it but in one condition..."

"What is it?"

"You will handle all the interrogations that might be initiated upon your parents discovering your disappearance because of your odd choice of time for a meetup."

I just rolled my eyes.

"Alright, alright, whatever. So, you are picking me up?"

"Well... since you agreed to handle the questioning, I will go and pick you up. I am a type of person who holds onto my word, you know?" I can hear her chuckle once more.

"I will be ending this call now. I will just text you when I am nearby. Where do we meet though?" She continued.

"Okay, let's just meet at the street before you take the turn into the alley leading to our house." Upon receiving my response, she ended the call.

I kept my phone into my pocket as I carefully went out out of my room. I looked around, checking if the coast is clear before I went downstairs, and sneaked out of the house through the back door. One more hurdle is left for me to surpass, and that is the security guard.
