Epilogue

Alexa and Maurice seemed to be restless as they wanted to make sure that everything would be perfect. 

They have been going back and forth to the hall, checking if the food that has been prepared would be sufficient for the expected number of guests. Aside from that, they checked everything else a couple of times already, so that nothing could go wrong that would lead to an unpleasant experience. There was no room for mistakes, especially that Maurice's parents would be coming over. Maurice's relationship with her parents was mended, but this is the first time that she will come face to face with them again. The same goes for Alexa, and the thought of coming across them daunts her.

Today, the seventh birthday party of their fraternal twins: Lucia Alexis and Lucia Margaux Rivera is happening. Yes, you have read it right. They have twins. Two years into their marriage, Alexa and Maurice decided to undergo in vitro fertilization (IVF). By the way, their wedding was held just 6 months after their engagement. 

Maurice was the one who carried out the pregnancy of the twins. Her parents could not stop themselves from reaching out to their daughter when they eventually found out that they have grandchildren from her.

Going back, Julia was getting dizzy watching the two walk back and forth. As one of the godparents of the twins, she arrived earlier than the other guests to assist the couple and the crew in the preparations. Actually, Lucy and their son, Lincoln, were with her. She just asked them to stay with the twins to keep them entertained.

"Hey lovebirds, you went over these a couple of times already. There is nothing that can possibly go wrong by now. Can you please calm yourselves up and take your seats? I'm seriously getting dizzy watching the two of you." Julia called them out.

The two sighed in defeat, occupying the seats in front of Julia's.

"We just wanted to make sure that everything would be smooth sailing, so that our twins and the guests would both have a great time." Maurice mumbled.

"I know, I know. I mean, who wouldn't want that? But then, you two are being overly concerned already. I'm getting tired by simply watching the two of you earlier. You two must be able to enjoy this event as well." 

Maurice nodded in acknowledgement, relaxing a bit.

"You're right." 

However, it wasn't the same for Alexa. She is still tense. It was evident with her fidgeting on the tablecloth. For Maurice and Julia, this was such a rare sight. Among the two, it is Alexa who can stay calm and collected. For some reason, she cannot pull that off today. Julia eventually figured out why. 

"Alexa, look, you've proven enough. I know that you aren't behaving like this simply because of your desire to ensure that the guests would have a great time." 

Alexa was caught off guard.

"You do want to prove yourself to Maurice's parents, don't you?"  

Alexa looked down. Then, Julia looked at Maurice knowingly. 

"I will leave the two of you first. I will check on the twins." 

As soon as Julia left, Maurice angled her body towards Alexa and cupped her wife's chin to make her face her.

"Baby, was that the true reason why you've been acting like this?" Maurice questioned.

"I-I couldn't help it. I know that they don't like me for you. All these years, they managed to forget about you being their daughter because you chose to be with me." Alexa quavered.

"I get you." Maurice held Alexa's hand with her free hand, then leveled it to her lips.

Maurice began brushing her lips the back of the latter's palm while caressing her knuckles. Then, she paused as she gazed on Alexa endearingly.
