Skylar|
We drove down the unwinding road for probably a half hour before we regrouped with Michelle and the rest of them. They were huddled in the car outside of another abandoned home, either waiting for us or waiting for another attack. We pulled in beside them, quickly cutting off the engine and stepping out of the car. Within seconds, Michelle's arms were locking me in a hug, soothing her own worries about my well being. Doc, as average, was still on his laptop in the car, trying to reroute our whole trip considering the vamps had caught on to us.
He typed away viciously at his computer, frustrated with his powerless position. Closing his laptop, his slid out the car, smiling as if everything was okay. His hair was as wild as his thoughts and he soon brought me into a hug as well before releasing a shaky breath.
"We are cornered. They planned on us saving her. We, uh, we walked right into their trap and they are closing in fast." His voice was grim and quiet as she tried to his the information from the rest of the group.
I could already tell that Amber was afraid and the only thing keeping her from crumbling was her protectiveness over her sister. They remained in the car, huddled together as they waited for us to determine their fates. Jess and Nicole leaned nonchalantly against my car, faces emotionless, as they waited for my word. I knew that they wouldn't leave my side or show whatever they were afraid of and that scared me because I could lead them to their deaths and they would follow blindly.
"How close?" I asked, creating my own plan that I knew no one would agree with. Doc looked at me, seeming to read my mind before he shook his head, dismissing the entire idea. "How close are they Doc?" I questioned again, knowing that this was our only way.
"No Skylar! I'm not letting you do it." Michelle just watched our argument, not sure what was transpiring but she was backing Doc up. I smiled at them, loving them because of how much they cared about me. Although I woke up without a trace of who I was, they seemed like the only parents that I ever knew. I knew they would worry but I didn't want them to be in any danger for my sake. I wouldn't let them die trying to protect me.
So I lied.
"I'll be fine. I'll just stay here long enough for you guys to get away. Then I'll leave. I'll be okay, Chelle. Come on Doc. You guys need this. They need this." I explained as I pointed to the crumbling siblings in the back seat of his car. They looked destroyed just from the idea of being hunted and I knew they couldn't, wouldn't, last in a full blown fight against more than a dozen vampires. He knew I was right but he couldn't decide if he wanted to give my life for theirs.
"I promise I'll make it back to you."
His violet eyes took me in, hard set on me, as he reluctantly nodded his head. Michelle was already crying, her back turned to me as I gave her a slight hug. I wanted them to be safe and, if that meant walking back into Hell's gates then I would do it a million times over. Jess and Nicole were watching me wearily while I just smiled at them. Without saying a word, they just nodded, tears flowing down Jess's face, and hopped into my car.
"I know you guys can lead them back to safety. So please. Don't let them die, okay?" I begged more than demanded and they just nodded their heads, revving up the engine before continuing on the road, Doc and Michelle following closely behind them.
I could already smell the toxic scent of death as they swarmed in on my location. Everything around me gave into death as they emerged from the forest. In the darkness, I could only see trails of Red and Violet eyes with the familiar hate-filled glare that I remembered. They smiled crudely, as if I wouldn't make it out alive but I knew they couldn't kill me. And I was heavily depending on that.
