The day for the DNA test came faster than I had expected. Amelie was excited that she would get to see her 'daddy' again, and I just wanted to get it over and done with. We had decided with Sam that it would be today, so that Amelie had a week afterwards, before she went back to school.

Me and Amelie got up early that morning- at eight o'clock to be exact. I laid in bed for another half an hour before getting Amelie up. We got changed into matching outfits (as always) and ate breakfast (pancakes and orange juice,) then leaving the house and making our way to the hospital. We had decided that we would meet Sam outside the hospital and would go in together.

Once we arrived at the hospital, Amelie ran towards Sam and asked him to pick her up. I had groaned when Amelie did this, as she had not wanted me to pick her up, but her potential father, who was practically a stranger.

We all sat down together and waited until it was our turn to go in. I didn't speak to Sam, but him and Amelie made small talk. Amelie seemed to get along well with him, and even if the results came back negative, I decided that we could still be friends so that Amelie could still see him from time to time. I hadn't thought about what would happen if the results came back positive though.

"Amelie Shaw and Sam Mctrusty can you go to room 118, the doctor is ready for you," the receptionist said giving us a warm smile. We all stood up and made our way to the room. We knocked on the door, then walked inside. "Maariah Zaman?" I asked. She looked up from her computer then shook her head in disbelief. "Josie, is that you?" She asked standing up and pulling me in for a hug. I had lost contact with
Maariah after high school, so it was a shock seeing her here.

"Hello there, what's your name?" Maariah asked Amelie, putting out her hand so that Amelie could shake it. She did then smiled softly. "A DNA test is it?" Maariah asked. I nodded. Maariah went put of the room to get the supplies that she needed, and I stood holding Amelie's hand.

'Right, I'm back. Amelie would you like to go first?" Maariah said becoming more businesslike and serious. You could tell that she loved her job, and working with people, but she knew when to be serious.

Amelie began sobbing when she saw the needle, but Maariah tried to console her. "Don't worry sweetie, this will only take a small amount of time, and then I'll give you a princess sticker." I smiled at Maariah thankfully, because I didn't know what to say to my cryong six year old. I tried to talk to her while the doctor was taking her blood, but she kept kicking her legs. Then Sam stepped in and sang to her
"There once was an answer I swear, I swear..."
His singing calmed her down instantly. I was so grateful that he was there to calm Amelie down. I hated seeing my daughter in so much pain. It made me feel completely helpless, but now that Sam was here to help, I thought that we could do it.

"All done Amelie, now would you like to choose a sticker, for being such a brave girl?" Amelie sniffled but nodded her head and went to pick a sticker out. Once she was done I gave her a big hug and praised her for doing so well.

We waited for Sam to have his blood taken, so that Sam had had his blood taken, I gave Maariah a hug and thanked her. "The results should be in soon, I can try and get them for you by Sunday at a push." I was glad that Maariah was our doctor and I knew that she was bending certain rules for us, so I thanked her again.

That night I got into bed and thought about the day we'd had. Amelie was fast asleep clutching the sticker Maariah had given her. I smiled and cuddled up to my daughter, slowly drifting off into a peaceful sleep.
